Kumar was one of the most popular singers in the Indian subcontinent, notable for his yodelling and ability to sing songs in different voices. Parineeta is a 1953 Indian Hindi-language drama film starring Meena Kumari and Ashok Kumar, based upon the 1914 Bengali novella of the same name by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay. The film was directed by Bimal Roy. This version of the film is considered by many to be the most faithful adaptation of the novella, particularly due to Meena Kumari's interpretation of the role of Lalita.

The film stars Vinod Mehra, Mahendra Sandhu, and Zarina Wahab in lead roles. This film was released under the banner of Golden Star Movies. Music direction was done by Sonik Omi.
Commander is a Hindi-language action drama film directed and produced by Rakesh Kumar. This film was released on 2 October 1981 under the banner of Shanti Doot Chitra. It starring Amjad Khan in lead role and Amitabh Bachchan played as a truck driver in a cameo appearance in this film only to help out his friend Amjad to promote the movie. Music direction of the film was done by Kalyanji-Anandji.
