The KM250, alternately K511, is a family of 6x6 tactical truck manufactured by Kia Motors in South Korea. It is an updated version of the US-made M35A2 cargo truck. [2] While retaining the classic American look of long bonnet, soft-topped cab and a large carrying area, KIA has integrated the truck with several modern features.
The KM250 is developed on the basis of the classic American truck M35A2, which was manufactured under license.
In April 2020, a $1.4 billion deal was signed for a total of 10,000 new trucks. These vehicles are set to replace the Republic of Korea Army's (RoKA's) in-service K511 (KM250) and K71 (KM500) vehicles which have been in service with the RoKA and a few other countries for more than 40 years. In particular, the KM250 will be replaced by a truck with a hoodless cab and the possibility of installing additional reservations. [3] [4]
The KM250 is powered by the 180 hp KK-7.4 diesel engine. The truck is capable of cruising at 95 km/h with torque generation recorded to as much as 490Nm. Weighing 6.1 tonnes, the truck, designed with 6x6 configuration, is equipped with a fuel tank, with a capacity of 200 litres of fuel. The 200-litre tank capacity replaces the payload limitation by enabling the vehicle to reach a destination as far as 955 km. It has a payload capacity of 2,270 kg off-road and 4,550 kg on hard surface roads. The vehicle can accommodate up to 22 passengers including 20 fully equipped troops and a crew of two. It is equipped with a pintle hook for towing heavy cargo trailers and 105 millimeter howitzers. [2] It can exert a maximum braking force by utilizing the air over hydraulic technology. The removable slated body walls serve as troop seats when folded down. The canvas top and supporting structure can be removed from both the cab and cargo body. The windshield can be also folded for maximum versatility. A front-mounted winch was optional.
The GATOR (General-purpose Amphibious Truck, Overside Removable kit) is a PH-designed Modular Amphibious Kit for 6x6 truck. It is based on the KIA KM250 6x6 truck or any 6x6 military truck. It has a removable 200HP Mercury jet engine and in-country production thru Self-Reliance Defense Posture [SRDP] Program in partnership with Stoneworks [PH] which is part of the Philippine Army SRDP Project. The Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck (HEMTT) is an eight-wheel drive, diesel-powered, 10-short-ton (9,100 kg) tactical truck. The M977 HEMTT first entered service in 1982 with the United States Army as a replacement for the M520 Goer, and since that date has remained in production for the U.S. Army and other nations. By Q2 2021, around 35,800 HEMTTs in various configurations had been produced by Oshkosh Defense through new-build contracts and around 14,000 of these had been re-manufactured. Current variants have the A4 suffix.
The Casspir is a Mine-resistant ambush protected vehicle that has been in use in South Africa since the 1980s. It is a four-wheeled, four-wheel drive vehicle, used for transport of troops. It can hold a crew of two, plus 12 additional soldiers and associated equipment. The Casspir was unique in design when launched, providing for passive mine defence. The main armoured steel body of the vehicle is raised high above the ground, so when a mine is detonated, the explosion is less likely to damage the crew compartment and kill the occupants. The cross-section of the hull is V-shaped, directing the force of the explosion outwards, further protecting the occupants.
The Chevrolet Silverado is a range of trucks manufactured by General Motors under the Chevrolet brand. Introduced for the 1999 model year, the Silverado is the successor to the long-running Chevrolet C/K model line. Taking its name from the top trim level from the Chevrolet C/K series, the Silverado is offered as a series of full-size pickup trucks, chassis cab trucks, and medium-duty trucks. The fourth generation of the model line was introduced for the 2019 model year.
In the 1950s, LeTourneau Inc. developed several overland trains, essentially oversized semi-trailer trucks that could travel over almost any terrain. Their intention was to be able to handle logistics needs without being dependent on local road or rail systems, allowing them to operate in back-country areas. The US Army had three experimental units built, the largest reaching almost 600 feet (183 m) long, which holds the record for the longest off-road vehicle. Road trains are in use in certain roles today, but the US Army examples and a few derivatives appear to be the only off-road examples built.
The AEC Matador was a heavy 4×4 truck and medium artillery tractor built by the Associated Equipment Company for British and Commonwealth forces during World War II. AEC had already built a 4×2 lorry, also known as the Matador.
The Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles (FMTV) is a series of military vehicles that are based on a common chassis and vary by payload and mission requirements. The FMTV is derived from the Austrian Steyr 12M18 truck, but substantially modified to meet United States Army requirements, these including a minimum 50 percent U.S. content.
The M939 is a 5-ton 6×6 U.S. military heavy truck. The basic cargo versions were designed to transport a 10,000 pounds (4,500 kg) cargo load over all terrain in all weather. Designed in the late 1970s to replace the M39 and M809 series of trucks, it has been in service ever since. The M939 evolved into its own family of cargo trucks, dump trucks, semi-tractors, vans, wreckers, and bare chassis/cabs for specialty bodies. 44,590 in all were produced.
The M35 2½-ton cargo truck is a long-lived 2½-ton 6×6 cargo truck initially used by the United States Army and subsequently utilized by many nations around the world. Over time it evolved into a family of specialized vehicles. It inherited the nickname "Deuce and a Half" from an older 2½-ton truck, the World War II GMC CCKW.
The GMC CCKW, also known as "Jimmy", or the G-508 by its Ordnance Supply Catalog nr, was a highly successful series of off-road capable, 21⁄2-ton, 6×6 trucks, built in large numbers to a standardized design for the U.S. Army, that saw heavy service, predominantly as cargo trucks, in both World War II and the Korean War. The original "Deuce and a Half", it formed the backbone of the famed Red Ball Express that kept Allied armies supplied as they pushed eastward after the Normandy invasion.
The Dodge WC-54, Ambulance, 3⁄4-ton, 4 x 4,, was the main military ambulance variant of the prolific Dodge WC series of light 4×4 trucks, developed during World War II. Built from 1942 until 1945, they served as the U.S. Army's main dedicated ambulance, with many also serving in the Korean War, in the U.S. Army Medical Corps, some used as late as 1953; and others serving as late as the 1960s in the armies of some European countries.
The AIL M325 Command Car is a 4x4 military truck produced by the Automotive Industries Limited (AIL) of Nazareth in Israel from 1970 to 1993 for use by the Israel Defense Forces. The M325 is a light, versatile truck designed for carrying up to 12 troops and radio equipment while being fitted with up to four 7.62 mm machine guns. Mechanically, it is based on the Dodge Power Wagon, which it succeeded in service for the Israel Defense Forces.

The M809 Series 5-ton 6x6 truck (G908) was a family of heavy tactical trucks built for the United States Armed Forces. The basic cargo version was designed to transport a 5-ton (4,500 kg), 14 ft (4.3 m) long load over all terrain in all weather. In on-road service the load weight was doubled. Built by AM General, they evolved into the M939 Series.
Dongfeng Mengshi was originally a family of 4×4 MRAP/off-road vehicles developed by Dongfeng Motor Group. Early generations of the vehicle are built with imported Hummer H1 chassis, while later generations of the vehicles are of indigenous design. Dongfeng Mengshi generally follows the trend of American military requirements. For example, CSK-141 is the Chinese equivalent of an armor-plated reinforced Humvee, while CSK-181 is the Chinese equivalent of the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle.
The 2+1⁄2-ton, 6×6 truck was a standard class of medium duty trucks, designed at the beginning of World War II for the US Armed Forces, in service for over half a century, from 1940 into the 1990s. Also frequently known as the deuce and a half, or just deuce, this nickname was popularized post WWII, most likely in the Vietnam war era. The basic cargo versions were designed to transport a cargo load of nominally 2+1⁄2 short tons over all terrain, in all weather. The 2+1⁄2-ton trucks were used ubiquitously in World War II, and continued to be the U.S. standard medium duty truck class after the war, including wide usage in the Korean and Vietnam Wars, as well as the first Gulf War.
The Hyundai Xcient is a South Korean truck made by Hyundai Motor Company. It was presented at the Seoul Motor Show 2013 as the successor of Hyundai Trago.
The FAW MV3 is the third generation military truck developed by First Automobile Works (FAW). Since 2011, FAW MV3 is the standardized military truck used widely by the Chinese People's Liberation Army. The utility truck has two configurations, 4x4 and more commonly 6x6, both featuring cross-country mobility. The truck also comes with options on single or double armored cabs. It's the Chinese equivalent of US Army M939 and MTVR.
The K151 Raycolt or the Kia Light Tactical Vehicle (KLTV) is a light utility vehicle released by South Korea's Kia Motors. It entered full production in 2016 and entered service with the Republic of Korea Army the same year.
The K311 is a 4x4 multipurpose 1 1/4–ton class cargo truck developed for the Republic of Korea Armed Forces, and was introduced in 1980. It is commonly known as 4-5 (5/4) ton or military Dodge, because it replaced and had similar appearance with Dodge M37. It is a modernized version of the American Kaiser Jeep M715 truck, which was also designed with an intention to replace the M37 truck. The truck was produced by Asia Motors until Hyundai merged the company with Kia Motors in 1999. The KM450 is an export name designated by Kia Motors, and the name is used widely outside of South Korea for both old and new variants.
