The award is an initiative by the Netherlands Film Festival and the Netherlands Film Fund to increase media attention for Dutch films. For each awarded film there is one trophy for the film crew and another for the film cast.

The film premiered on the 72nd edition of the Berlin Film Festival. The film won three Golden Calves for Best Feature Film, Best Director and Best production Design. Making it the first animated film to ever win these awards. it also received the Golden Film, a distinction for Dutch films with more than 100.000 tickets sold during its release. The film also made it on the shortlist for the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature but wasn't nominated.
A Greyhound Of A Girl is a 2023 internationally co-produced animated drama film, directed by Enzo D'Alò that is a co-production between seven European countries. It is an adaptation of the 2011 novel of the same name by Roddy Doyle by D'Alò and Dave Ingham. It has a voice cast that includes Sharon Horgan and Brendan Gleeson. It premiered at the Berlin Film Festival in February 2023.
