Kim Dong-won (born 1962) is a South Korean film director and screenwriter. [1] Kim's directorial debut, the comedy film My Boss, My Teacher , was a hit at the box office with more than 6.1 million admissions, making it the fourth best-selling film of 2006. [2]
His third feature R2B: Return to Base (2012), a remake of Shin Sang-ok's 1964 film Red Scarf , is Korea's first-ever aerial action blockbuster which starred Rain. [3] [4]

R2B: Return to Base is a 2012 South Korean aviation action drama film loosely based on the 1986 film Top Gun. The film stars Rain, Shin Se-kyung and Yoo Jun-sang in lead roles. It was directed by Kim Dong-won and is a remake of Shin Sang-ok's 1964 film Red Scarf. It is about a talented, yet troublemaking, elite air force pilot who is demoted to a combat flying unit. It was released on 15 August 2012. The Republic of Korea Air Force was heavily involved in the film's production.

Red Scarf, also known as Red Muffler and Operation Air Raid-Red Muffler, is a 1964 South Korean aviation war film set during the Korean War. Headlined by stars Shin Young-kyun, Choi Eun-hee, Choi Moo-ryong some of the best known South Korean actors of their time, Red Scarf is among the most iconic of prolific director Shin Sang-ok's work, and was well received outside of South Korea. The film was made with the cooperation of the Republic of Korea Air Force (ROKAF) and is particularly well remembered for its aerial sequences; especially the final showdown between RoKAF F-86 Sabres and Korean People's Air Force MiG-15s. It inspired the 2012 action film R2B: Return to Base.
