The Korean People's Army is the military force of North Korea and the armed wing of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK). The KPA consists of five branches:the Ground Force,the Naval Force,the Air Force,Strategic Force,and the Special Operation Force. It is commanded by the WPK Central Military Commission,which is chaired by the WPK general secretary,and the president of the State Affairs;both posts are currently headed by Kim Jong Un.

The Korean People's Army Strategic Force,previously known as the Korean People's Army Strategic Rocket Force and as the Missile Guidance Bureau,is a military branch of the Korean People's Army that oversees North Korea's nuclear and conventional strategic missiles. It is mainly armed with surface-to-surface missiles of domestic design as well as older Soviet and Chinese models. The KPA Strategic Force was established in 1999 when several missile units under KPA Ground Force Artillery Command were re-organized into a single missile force reporting directly to the office of the Supreme Commander of the KPA via the General Staff.

Kim Kyong-hui is the aunt of current North Korean leader,Kim Jong Un. She is the daughter of the founding North Korean leader Kim Il Sung and the sister of the late leader Kim Jong Il. She currently serves as Secretary for Organization of the Workers' Party of Korea. An important member of Kim Jong Il's inner circle of trusted friends and advisors,she was director of the WPK Light Industry Department from 1988 to 2012. She was married to Jang Song-thaek,who was executed in December 2013 in Pyongyang,after being charged with treason and corruption.
O Kuk-ryol was a North Korean military general. He was Chief of General Staff of the Korean People's Army from 1979 to 1988. He also served as vice-chairman of the National Defence Commission of North Korea,head of the Operations Department from April 2009 to June 2016. Foreign observers referred to O as the second most powerful man in North Korea.
Vice Marshal Ri Yong-ho was a North Korean military officer who was Chief of the General Staff of the Korean People's Army from 2009 to 2012,as well as a member of the Presidium of the Workers' Party of Korea from September 2010 to July 2012.

He also served as Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un's military second-in-command,currently being third top-ranking official in North Korea after Kim Jong Un and premier Kim Tok-hun.
Hyon Yong-chol was a North Korean general and Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) politician. He served as Minister of Defence from 2014 to 2015. In 2015,he was reportedly removed from his post.

He was formerly a member of the Politburo of the Workers' Party of Korea and director of munitions and military. He was a "supervisor of the department for the nuclear and missile development".
The Hwasong-12 is a mobile intermediate-range ballistic missile developed by North Korea. The Hwasong-12 was first revealed to the international community in a military parade on 14 April 2017 celebrating the Day of the Sun which is the birthday anniversary of North Korea's founding President,Kim Il Sung. North Korea tested Hwasong-12 on 30 January 2022.
This is a list of military parades held in Pyongyang,the capital of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) since 1948. All military parades consist of troops from the Korean People's Army and the paramilitary Worker-Peasant Red Guards. All military parades of a national nature are held on Pyongyang's Kim Il-sung Square with the General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea,President of the State Affairs Commission and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of North Korea in attendance. These parades are broadcast live on Korean Central Television.
The Hwasong-8 is a North Korean missile claimed to be mounting a hypersonic glide vehicle,which was first tested on 14 September 2021. The first launch occurred in September,in a month with a total of four missile launches. As it is supposed to be a hypersonic missile,the missile significantly increases the threat that North Korea can put on South Korea,as the higher speed allows it to reach its target in shorter time and additional maneuverability would give it a better chance at defeating missile defenses. Japanese tracking data from a test launch suggest it is a hypersonic ballistic missile,as North Korea described it.
