Stony Brook University (SBU),officially the State University of New York at Stony Brook,is a public research university on Long Island in Stony Brook,New York. Along with the University at Buffalo,it is one of the State University of New York system's two flagship institutions. Its campus consists of 213 buildings on over 1,454 acres of land in Suffolk County and it is the largest public university in the state of New York.
Stony Brook University Hospital (SBUH),previously known as Stony Brook University Medical Center,is a nationally ranked,695-bed non-profit,research,and academic medical center located in Stony Brook,New York,providing tertiary care for the entire Long Island region. The medical center is a part of the Stony Brook Medicine Health System and is made up of four hospitals that include the Stony Brook University Hospital,Stony Brook Children's Hospital,Stony Brook Southampton Hospital,and Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital. SBUH is affiliated with the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University. Long Island's only tertiary care and a Level 1 Adult and Pediatric Trauma Center,the hospital is ranked as the 12th best in New York and 10th in the New York metropolitan area by U.S. News &World Report. The hospital campus also includes a rooftop helipad to better serve critical cases.
The Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium is the main stadium for Stony Brook University in Stony Brook,New York,United States. Construction began in 2000 at a cost of approximately $22 million. With a capacity of 12,300 people,it is the largest outdoor facility in Suffolk County. The stadium is home to the Division I Stony Brook Seawolves and their football,men's soccer,women's soccer,men's lacrosse,and women's lacrosse teams.

Matt Senk is an American college baseball coach who is currently the head coach of the Stony Brook Seawolves. Senk has held the head coaching position at Stony Brook since prior to the 1991 season. Under Senk,Stony Brook has won America East Conference baseball tournaments in 2004,2008,2010,2012,2015,and 2019,appearing in the NCAA tournament each of those seasons. In 2012,Stony Brook won the Coral Gables Regional and advanced to the Baton Rouge Regional to face LSU. After defeating LSU in a three-game series,the team moved on to the College World Series for the first time in program history. It was the first time that a school from the Northeast had reached the College World Series since 1986.

The 2024 New York State Assembly election will be held on November 5,2024. This election will coincide with elections for U.S. Senate,U.S. House of Representatives,the U.S. presidential election,and state senate,among others. Districts for this election were redrawn pursuant to court order in Nichols v. Hochul,though the lines passed by the Independent Redistricting Commission and the state legislature on April 28,2023,were nearly identical to the 2022 districts. Democrats have held a majority in the New York State Assembly since 1975.
