Kimberly Jean-Pierre is an American politician serving as a member of the New York Assembly for the 11th district,which includes portions of the town of Babylon in Suffolk County. A Democrat,she was first elected in 2014 and announced she would not seek reelection in 2024. [1]
Jean-Pierre is of Haitian-American descent,and graduated from Brooklyn College and later received a master's degree in public policy from Stony Brook University. [2] Prior to elected office Jean-Pierre worked for the Suffolk County Legislature as a legislative aide to DuWayne Gregory. [3] She later worked for Congressman Steve Israel as a Community Outreach Coordinator, [4] and later for the Town of Babylon's Industrial Development Agency.
In 2014,Assemblyman Robert Sweeney decided to retire,leaving the district open for the first time in twenty six years. [5] Jean-Pierre announced her run,and easily attained the nomination before going to win the election with 58% of the vote. [6] She easily won reelection in 2016 and 2018. [7] In the Assembly,Jean-Pierre serves as Chair of the Subcommittee on Banking in Underserved Communities. [8]
In 2022,Jean-Pierre was narrowly reelected by under 1% against Republican. She announced that she would not run for reelection in 2024 days after the candidate filing deadline,allowing the Suffolk County Democratic Party to replace her on the ballot without a primary. [1]

The Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium is the main stadium for Stony Brook University in Stony Brook,New York,United States. Construction began in 2000 at a cost of approximately $22 million. With a capacity of 12,300 people,it is the largest outdoor facility in Suffolk County. The stadium is home to the Division I Stony Brook Seawolves and their football,men's soccer,women's soccer,men's lacrosse,and women's lacrosse teams.

Matt Senk is an American college baseball coach who is currently the head coach of the Stony Brook Seawolves. Senk has held the head coaching position at Stony Brook since prior to the 1991 season. Under Senk,Stony Brook has won America East Conference baseball tournaments in 2004,2008,2010,2012,2015,and 2019,appearing in the NCAA tournament each of those seasons. In 2012,Stony Brook won the Coral Gables Regional and advanced to the Baton Rouge Regional to face LSU. After defeating LSU in a three-game series,the team moved on to the College World Series for the first time in program history. It was the first time that a school from the Northeast had reached the College World Series since 1986.

The 2024 New York State Assembly election will be held on November 5,2024. This election will coincide with elections for U.S. Senate,U.S. House of Representatives,the U.S. presidential election,and state senate,among others. Districts for this election were redrawn pursuant to court order in Nichols v. Hochul,though the lines passed by the Independent Redistricting Commission and the state legislature on April 28,2023,were nearly identical to the 2022 districts. Democrats have held a majority in the New York State Assembly since 1975.
