History

The race was inaugurated in 1987.

It was held annually in March prior to the Golden Slipper Stakes but in 2012 was moved to April as part of the Australian Derby Day race card at Randwick. [1]

The following thoroughbreds have captured the Kindergarten Stakes – Golden Slipper double:
