Koi was the more southerly of the two main Pomo villages in the southeastern section of Clear Lake in Lake County, California, United States. [1] Both it and the other triblet center, Elem, were located on islands near the shore and controlled territory on the mainland. [2] It was located on Lower Lake Island, also called Indian Island. Historical Pomo territory in Northern California was large, bordered by the Pacific Coast to the west, extending inland to Clear Lake, and mainly between Cleone and Duncans Point. One small group, the Tceefoka, lived in the vicinity of present-day Stonyford in Colusa County, separated from the core Pomo area by lands inhabited by Yuki and Wintuan speakers.

The Elem Indian Colony of Pomo Indians are a Native American band of Pomo based on 50 acres (200,000 m2) near Clearlake Oaks, California on the Eastern shore of Clear Lake. The Elem Indian Colony reservation was originally formed under the name Sulfur Bank Rancheria in 1949. The reservation lies between Clearlake Oaks to its north, and Clearlake to its south.

The Sanel Valley in Mendocino County, California, is a valley along the Russian River containing the town of Hopland. The river flows through the valley for approximately 6 miles (9.7 km) from the northeast to the southwest, and it is met near Hopland by two tributaries, Feliz Creek on the west side of the river and McDowell Creek on the east. The valley is approximately 2 miles (3.2 km) wide, and covers an area of 8.4 square miles (22 km2).
