Koichi Nishimura

Koichi "Nishi" Nishimura (born 30 June 1973 in Kyoto, Japan) is a beach volleyball player from Japan. Nishimura began his career as an indoor volleyball player and played Libero for the Japanese National Team. In 2002 Nishimura switched to beach volleyball. He currently plays in "Winds" beach volleyball team. In 2009, Nishimura founded the environmental non-profit-organisation "Save the Beach". [1]

In 2002 he switched from indoor volleyball to beach volleyball.

At the 2006 Swatch FIVB World Tour, France, he won the 7th place and accomplished the unprecedented feat of becoming the first Japanese man to reach 7th place in a beach volleyball world tour tournament. The Japanese team was awarded "Most Improved Team" title.

Kaoru Sugayama is a Japanese volleyball player. Although her nickname is "yuu", Ai Otomo already had that nickname on the All-Japan women's Team, so she was given the new nickname "kaoru". Her nickname in television broadcasts is "koushuni kagayaku Kaoru-hime",. Also, she is sometimes known as "shiroi yousei" due in part to her fair skin. However, she is embarrassed to be called "Princess Kaoru" or "White fairy". She belongs to the volleyball team JT Marvelous of the V.League. In May 2008, she retired from the team and from organized volleyball.

Kim Yeon-koung is a South Korean female professional volleyball player and a member of the FIVB Athletes' Commission. She is the outside hitter and captain of the South Korean National Team, and currently plays for Eczacıbaşı VitrA.

The Japan men's national volleyball team represents Japan in international volleyball competitions and friendly matches. Japan won a bronze medal at the Tokyo 1964 Olympic Games, followed by silver at Mexico 1968 and a gold at Munich 1972. The years after this have been less successful. Japan missed three successive Olympic Games before returning at Beijing 2008, where they failed to win a match. Japan then failed to qualify for the London 2012 Olympic Games and also missed Rio 2016 after finishing seventh at the World Olympic Qualification Tournament in Tokyo. They also failed to qualify for the 2014 FIVB World Championship the first edition they had missed in 54 years. They had previously won FIVB World Championship bronze medals in 1970 and 1974. Japan silver medalists at the 1969 and 1977 World Cup. Japan has been less successful in the World League era. The team has won the Asian Championships nine times and the Asian Games eight times.
