Kokkarakko is Gangai Amaran's sophomore directorial venture after Kozhi Koovuthu (1982). [3] It is the debut for Ilavarasi, a former child actress, in a leading role. [2]
The music was composed by Ilaiyaraaja. [4] [5] The song "Geetham Sangeetham" is set to the raga Mohanam, [6] and "Kanpuram Devi" is set to Mayamalavagowla. [7]

Jayamanmadhan of Kalki praised the acting of Smitha, Ilaiyaraaja's music and song picturisations but felt Amaran seemed to have not cared about the plot and just went with the flow. [8]
Karakattakkaran is a 1989 Indian Tamil-language romantic comedy dance film written and directed by Gangai Amaran. The film stars Ramarajan and debutant Kanaka, while Santhana Bharathi, Chandrasekhar, Goundamani, Senthil, Shanmugasundaram, Raja Bahadur, Gandhimathi and Kovai Sarala play supporting roles. It revolves around two karakattam dancers who fall in love with each other, but circumstances prevent them from confessing their love for one another. How they overcome these forms the rest of the story.
Amman Kovil Kizhakale is a 1986 Indian Tamil-language romantic drama film written and directed by R. Sundarrajan, starring Vijayakanth and Radha. The soundtrack to the 1980 Tamil-language psychological thriller film Moodu Pani directed by Balu Mahendra, features four songs composed by Ilaiyaraaja, in his 100th film as a music director, and lyrics written by his brother Gangai Amaran and Viji Manuel.
