Garfield Delano Spence, also known as Konshens, is a Jamaican dancehall recording artist, deejay, singer and businessman.
Prior to Spence's solo career, he was a member of the duo SoJah with his brother Delu. [1] His hits have included "Winner", "Rasta Impostor", "This Means Money", "Good Girl Gone Bad", "Gal Dem a Talk", "Realest Song", "Represent", "Do Sumn" and "Forward", "Gal a bubble". [2]
His 2005 single "Pon Di Corner" was a major hit in Japan, and led to a month-long tour of the country and a Japan-only album release. [3]
He made a guest appearance on Tarrus Riley's Contagious album, deejaying on "Good Girl Gone Bad", which was also released as a single. [4]
He has a large fanbase in Kenya, Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana and Europe, where his "Gal Dem Talk" single was a major hit, and he performed at Guyana's National Stadium in May 2011. [5]
His album, Real Talk , was released by Japanese label Koyashi in 2010. [6] A second album was also announced to be released in Jamaica on Tad Dawkins' Tad's International label. [6] Konshens also launched his own label, Subkonshus, in 2010, working with new acts including his brother Delus. [6]
In May 2011, he was one of several high-profile Jamaican celebrities to take part in a march in Torrington Park calling for an end to political rivalry in the area. |The march commemorated a fire in May 1980 at the Eventide Home which killed over 150 elderly women which was suspected to be politically motivated arson. [7]
In 2012, he released his second album, Mental Maintenance .
In 2013 his song "Gun Shot a Fire" was featured in the official soundtrack for the video game Grand Theft Auto V.
In March 2014, he became an official brand ambassador for Pepsi. [8]
In April 2016 he released the single "Bruk Off Yuh Back" and a remix by Chris Brown was released in 2017. [9] [10] The single's music video garnered more than 160 million views on YouTube. [11] In 2023 it was certified Silver in the UK by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI). [12] [13]
In July 2018, he was featured on I Don't Dance (Without You) with Matoma and Enrique Iglesias.
Spence married Latoya Wright in Miami, Florida, in November 2017. [1] Spence has two children, Liam and Sajhi Spence [14]
Sean Paul Ryan Francis Henriques is a Jamaican dancehall deejay. Paul's first album, Stage One, was released in 2000. He gained international fame with his second album, Dutty Rock, in 2002. Its single "Get Busy" topped the US Billboard Hot 100 chart in the United States, as did "Temperature", off his third album, The Trinity (2005).
Rexton Rawlston Fernando Gordon OD, better known by his stage name Shabba Ranks, is a Jamaican dancehall musician. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, he was one of the most popular Jamaican musicians in the world. Throughout his prominence in his home country as a dancehall artist, he gained popularity in North America with his studio album Just Reality in 1990. He released other studio albums, including As Raw as Ever and X-tra Naked, which both won a Grammy Award as Best Reggae Album in 1992 and 1993, respectively. He is notoriously popular for "Mr. Loverman" and "Ting-A-Ling", which were globally acclaimed and deemed his signature songs.
Vivienne Tanya Stephenson, known by her stage name Tanya Stephens, is a Jamaican reggae singer and deejay who emerged in the late 1990s. She is most known for her hits "Yuh Nuh Ready Fi Dis Yet" — later featured on the Reggae Gold 1997 compilation album — and "It's a Pity", for which Stephens achieved international recognition. She and business partner Andrew Henton have together co-founded Tarantula Records.
Ward 21 are a group of dancehall musicians and producers from Kingston, Jamaica, named after the psychiatric ward at the University Hospital of the West Indies in Kingston. David Constantine Brooks, better known by his stage name Mavado, is a Jamaican dancehall singer. Mavado signed with DJ Khaled's We the Best Music Group, a then-imprint of Cash Money and Republic Records in 2011. He guest performed on each of Khaled's studio albums, beginning with We the Best Forever (2011) until parting ways with the label prior to the release of his twelfth, Khaled Khaled (2021). His 2013 single, "Give It All to Me" was released in promotion for his debut major label studio album, which remains unreleased.

Known as the "Queen of Dancehall", a title previously given to Marion Hall when she was Lady Saw, Spice is recognised as one of the most prominent dancehall artists in the world. She is known for her aggressive flow, musical versatility and outspoken lyrics. Spice first gained recognition after performing at the annual dancehall festival Sting in 2000. She released her first single "Complain" for record producer Dave Kelly's Madhouse Records in 2003. She continued to release the singles "Right There" and "Hype", even being featured on songs with Jimmy Cliff and Beenie Man in 2004 and 2006, respectively.

Dancehall pop is a sub-genre of the Jamaican genre dancehall that originated in the early 2000s. Developing from the sounds of reggae, dancehall pop is characteristically different in its fusion with western pop music and digital music production. Dancehall pop is also different from dancehall in that most songs use lesser Jamaican Patois in lyrics––allowing it to be globally understood and consumed. It also incorporates the key pop music elements of having melodies, hooks, and the verse-chorus format. Additionally, the genre moves away from the reggae and roots reggae music origins in social and political protest, now lyrically centering on partying, dancing, and sexuality.
