The Korfbal League 2 is the second highest echelon of indoor korfball in the Netherlands for indoor korfball.

The winner of the Korfbal League 2 gets automatic promotion to Korfbal League while the number 2 plays in a play-off round for promotion/relegation against the team placed on the 9th position in the Korfbal League division. The last two teams after the regular season relegate automatically to Hoofdklasse.

History

The Royal Dutch Korfball Association started the Korfbal League 2 in 2022 in order to increase the competitivity level for indoor korfball in The Netherlands. This was done by introducing Korfball League 2 as a league in between Korfbal League and the Hoofdklasse league. [1] [2]

Korfball was a demonstration sport at the 1920 Olympic Games in Antwerp. It took place at the Olympisch Stadion at 22 August 1920. It was the first appearance of korfball at the Olympic Games, and was contested by a team from South Holland and a team from Amsterdam.

The 2013–14 Topklasse season is the fourth edition of the Dutch third tier since its inauguration in the current form in 2010. A total 32 teams are participating in the league: 25 from the 2012–13 Topklasse, and the remaining seven from the 2012–13 Hoofdklasse. As usual, the competition is divided into two leagues: "Saturday" and "Sunday", who differ by the day their games are usually played.

The Korfbal League is the highest echelon of indoor korfball in the Netherlands. The league was founded in 2005 as the new highest level in Dutch korfball. Before that the top level was split in two divisions. Since the start of the competition the format has been the same. The winner of the Korfbal League qualifies for the Korfball Champions League while the number 10 relegated to the Korfbal League 2. The number 9 will compete with the loser of the Korfbal League 2 final in a play-off for a position in the Korfbal League.

PKC is a Dutch korfball club located in Papendrecht, Netherlands. The club was founded on 2 February 1935 and they play their home games in the PKC-Hal. The team plays in white shirts and green shorts / skirts. The club has around 1000 members, which makes it the biggest korfball club in the world.

The Hoofdklasse is the third highest echelon of indoor korfball in the Netherlands. The division is split up in two parallel groups called Hoofdklasse A and Hoofdklasse B.

The Derde Divisie, formerly known as Topklasse, is the fourth tier of football in the Netherlands, which had its inaugural season as a third tier in 2010–11 and as a fourth tier in 2016–17. The league is placed between the Tweede Divisie and the Vierde Divisie, the third and fifth tiers of Dutch football, respectively. The introduction of the then Topklasse resulted from discussions between the Royal Dutch Football Association, the Coöperatie Eerste Divisie and the Centraal Overleg Hoofdklassers.

The 2024–25 Korfbal League season will be the 20th edition of the Korfbal League since its establishment in 2005. PKC are the defending champions. At the end of the previous season Groen Geel relegated directly to Korfbal League 2.

CKV Unitas is a Dutch korfball club located in Harderwijk, Netherlands. De club name Unitas stands for unity. The team plays in orange and black tenue.

The 2024–25 Korfbal League 2 season will be the 3rd edition of the Korfbal League 2 since its establishment in 2022. Groen Geel joined due to relegating from Korfbal League while DeetosSnel and Fiks joined by promoting from the Hoofdklasse league.
