Kolli Pratyagatma (born Kolli Kotayya Pratyagatma, named after his father, Kotayya as the culture and custom of Tamilnadu), also known as K. P. Atma (b: 31 October 1925 - d: 8 June 2001) was an Indian film journalist, director and producer known for his works in Telugu and Hindi cinema. He has garnered three National Film Awards. [1] [2]

Personal life

He was born on 31 October 1925 in Gudivada, Andhra Pradesh, India. Director K. Vasu is his son. He is also survived by his wife Satyavati, a daughter Tejo Latha in Bangalore and a son Kalidas in the United States. He died on 8 June 2001 in Hyderabad, India. K. Vasu directed about 12 movies in his film career, topping of it being Sri Shirdi Saibaba Mahatyam, with Vijayachander in the lead role that went on to become a super hit and is evergreen movie attracting good TRP when it is telecast on TV even now.

Journalist

Before entering the film industry, he worked as a journalist for magazine Prajasakti in 1952 and as an editor for the magazine Jwala.

Cinema

His debut film was Bharya Bhartalu in 1961. He has directed about 30 films in Telugu and Hindi and also produced a few films under Atma Arts. His film Raja Aur Runk went on to become a silver jubilee. He introduced Krishnam Raju to the film industry with his Nandi Award winning Telugu film Chilaka Gorinka in 1966.

Ghantasala Venkateswararao, known mononymously as Ghantasala, was an Indian film composer, Playback Singer known for his works predominantly in Telugu cinema and Kannada cinema and also in Tamil, Malayalam, Tulu and Hindi language films. Sanjeev Kumar

Sanjeev Kumar was an Indian film actor. He won several major awards including two National Film Awards for Best Actor for his performances in the movies Dastak (1970) and Koshish (1972). He acted in genres ranging from romantic dramas to thrillers. Kumar did not mind playing roles that were non-glamorous, such as characters well beyond his age. Movies such as Arjun Pandit, Sholay and Trishul, along with the remakes of Tamil films into Hindi such as Khilona, Yehi Hai Zindagi, Naya Din Nai Raat, Devata, Itni Si Baat and Ram Tere Kitne Naam exemplify his talents. L. V. Prasad Indian actor, director, producer

Akkineni Lakshmi Vara Prasada Rao, known popularly as L. V. Prasad, was an Indian film producer, actor, director, cinematographer and businessman. He was one of the pioneers of Indian cinema and is the recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest Award for films in India. In 1980, he was awarded the Raghupathi Venkaiah Award, for his contribution to Telugu cinema. He founded Prasads Group in 1956, which include the Prasad Art Pictures, Prasad Studios, Prasads IMAX and L V Prasad Eye Institute. L. V. Prasad was the chairman of the 27th National Film Awards Selection Committee held at New Delhi in 1980.

Kamala Kumari, known by her mononymous stage name Jayanthi, is an Indian actress known for her work in Kannada cinema. She is noted for her contributions to different genres of films from the 1960s, 1970s and early 1980s. She has appeared in over 500 films, including films in the Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Hindi and Marathi languages. Krishnam Raju Indian actor and politician

Uppalapati Venkata Krishnam Raju is an Indian actor and politician. He is known for his works in Telugu language films and is widely known as Rebel Star for his rebellious acting style. He is also the winner of the inaugural Nandi Award for Best Actor. Krishnam Raju has starred in more than 183 feature films in his career. He made his film debut with the 1966 Chilaka Gorinka produced and directed by Kotayya Pratyagatma. Krishnam Raju has garnered five Filmfare Awards South and three state Nandi Awards. Veeramachineni Madhusudhan Rao was an Indian film director, producer and screenwriter, known for his works predominantly in Telugu cinema, Rao directed over 45 films, including musical hits such as Annapurna, Zamindar, Antastulu, Aradhana, Aathma Balam, Aatmiyulu, Krishnaveni and produced Swati Kiranam. In 1965 he received the National Film Award for directing Antastulu. Rao died on 11 January 2012 at the age of 95.

Basavaraju Venkata Padmanabha Rao, popularly known as Padmanabham, was an Indian film, character actor, comedian, director and producer known for his works predominantly in Telugu cinema. Padmanabham is regarded as one of the finest comic actors of India, noted particularly for his comic expressions, and dialogues during the golden age of Telugu cinema. Padmanabham was essentially a theatre artist, although he also found success in cinema, and has acted in over 400 feature films. He made his film debut in 1945 with Mayalokam. He co-founded a Theatre group with his friend Vallam Narasimha Rao, Rekha and Murali Arts with S. P. Kodandapani as their music director.

<i>Chilaka Gorinka</i>

Chilaka Gorinka is a 1966 Telugu film produced and directed by Kotayya Pratyagatma. The film won the Nandi Award for Best Feature Film from Government of Andhra Pradesh. Srirangam Srinivasa Rao wrote the lyrics for the film, while Saluri Rajeswara Rao provided the music score.

Raja Aur Runk is a 1968 Bollywood film, directed by Kotayya Pratyagatma and starring Sanjeev Kumar and Kumkum.

Chandrakala Indian actress

Chandrakala was an Indian film actress who appeared in Telugu, Kannada, Tamil, Malayalam and Hindi films.

Rajasree, also known as Rajasri or Rajashri, is a noted South Indian film actress active from 1956 to 1979. She is particularly famous for her portrayal as a princess in several folklore Telugu movies opposite N. T. Rama Rao and Tadepalli Lakshmi Kanta Rao and for acting alongside Ravichandran in the Tamil comedy films Neeyum Naanum, Kadhalikka Neram Illai and Delhi Mappilai. Notable among Rajasri's roles in non-folklore social films in Tamil are as Nimmi in the Tamil hit comedy film Kaadhalikka Neramillai, remade as Preminchi Choodu in Telugu, as movie star Bhama in Tamil film Bama Vijayam. She was credited as Gracy in the Malayalam movies she starred in her career since her debut film Bharya (1962), directed by Kunchako. Rajasree went on to do 200 films spread across the languages – Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi from beginning of 1956 to 1979.

T. Chalapathi Rao

Tatineni Chalapathi Rao was an Indian film music director who was very popular during the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s in Telugu films. Born to Dronavilli Manikyamma and Rattayya in the village of Vuyyuru in the Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh on 22 December 1920, but he was adopted by Tatineni Koteswara Rao and his wife Kotamma. He was the cousin of T. Prakash Rao.

He won one National Film Award for Antastulu and 2 Filmfare Awards for films, Antastulu and Aastiparulu. He is the father of noted actor Jagapathi Babu.

Krishnam Raju filmography

Krishnam Raju is an Indian actor who acted more than 190 films. Krishnam Raju entered Tollywood in 1966 with the film Chilaka Gorinka directed by Kotayya Pratyagatma alongside Krishna Kumari. The film won Nandi Award for Best Feature Film - Silver for that year. Later he acted in the mythological film Shri Krishnavataram which also stars N. T. Rama Rao. He acted in many films with the established actos N. T. Rama Rao and Akkineni Nageswara Rao. He also acted in many films with the established actresses Krishna Kumari, Rajasulochana, Jamuna and Kanchana.

Mukhram Sharma

Mukhram Sharma was an Indian film lyricist, script, and story writer. He is best known for winning the first Filmfare Award in the Best Story category in 1955 for the film Aulad. His notable works as story writer include Vachan (1955), Sadhna (1958), Talaq (1958) and Dhool Ka Phool (1959). He also produced films like Talaq (1958), Santaan, and Diwana (1967).

Vasanthi B. A. was an Indian actress and producer who was active in the Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada film industries during the latter half of the 20th century. She was well known for her second heroine and supporting roles in some movies.

Hemalatha (1926-2019) was an Indian actress of Telugu cinema, of Andhra Pradesh, India. She acted in more than 100 films during the 1950s to 1976. The first movie she acted was Palletooru. She retired from movies in 1976, with Seethamma Santhanam being the movie she last appeared. After retiring from movies, she was involved in Brahma Kumaris movement in Hyderabad till her death.
