The Greater Accra Region has the smallest area of Ghana's 16 administrative regions, occupying a total land surface of 3,245 square kilometres. This is 1.4 per cent of the total land area of Ghana. It is the most populated region, with a population of 5,455,692 in 2021, accounting for 17.7 per cent of Ghana's total population.
Goaso is a city and the capital of the newly created Ahafo Region of Ghana. Goaso doubles as the capital of Asunafo North Municipal District. It is located between three major towns; Mim, Kukuom and Hwidiem. Other surrounding towns include Ayumso, Akrodie, Fawohoyeden and Nkaseim. Goaso has population of 25,473 according to 2021 population census. This makes it the 2nd largest town after Mim in the Asunafo North Municipal District. Abraham Ossei Aidooh is a Ghanaian politician from the New Patriotic Party. As of 2008, he is the Majority Leader in the Parliament of Ghana; previously he was Deputy Majority Leader. He is also a member of the Pan-African Parliament. He also is rapporteur of the Committee on Rules, Privileges and Discipline, one of the ten permanent committees of the Pan-African Parliament.
Homowo is a festival celebrated by the Ga people of Ghana in the Greater Accra Region. The festival starts at the end of April into May with the planting of crops before the rainy season starts. The Ga people celebrate Homowo in the remembrance of famine that once happened in their history in precolonial Ghana. The Ga Homowo or Harvest Custom is an annual tradition among the Accra people, with its origin tied to the Native Calendar and the Damte Dsanwe people of the Asere Quarter. Asere is a sub-division of the Ga Division in the Accra District of the Gold Coast Colony.
Akropong is a town in South Ghana and is the capital of the Akuapim North District, a district in the Eastern Region of South Ghana. This town is known for producing snails and palm oil. Akropong has a 2013 settlement population of 13,785 people.
Ashaiman is a large town in Greater Accra Region of South Ghana and is the capital of Ashaiman Municipal District, a district in Greater Accra Region. Ashaiman has population of 208,060 according to 2021 official figures.
Adukrom is a town in the Okere District Assembly in the Eastern Region of Ghana. It shares borders with Awukugua Akuapem where Okomfo anokye was born The town is known for the Nifahene Stool of Akuapem and the capital of Okere District and situated on the Togo Atakora hills on the main Ho-Koforidua main trunk road in the northern part of Akuapem.
Dodowa is a town located in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana, it is the district capital of Dangme West district, now Shai Osudoku District.
Of the populated places in the Eastern region of Ghana, Larteh Akuapem is the capital of the Benkum Division of the Akuapem Traditional Council. It lies on the east of the ridge on the Akonnobepow.
The Sakumo Ramsar Site also known as the Sakumo Lagoon is a wetland of international importance. It covers an area of 1,400 hectares and is situated along the coastal road between Accra and Tema in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. It is about 3 km (1.9 mi) west of Tema. Activities ongoing within the site include farming, fishing, recreation, urban and industrial development.
Sakumono Lagoon is a coastal lagoon in Sakumono near Tema in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana, West Africa. The site covers 1,340 hectares. It was designated to form the bulk of the Sakumo Ramsar Site, a Ramsar wetland site of international importance, on 14 August 1992.
Abiriw is a town in the Okere District Assembly in the Eastern Region of Ghana.It shares border with Akropong and Dawu.
Kpone-Katamanso Municipal District is one of the twenty-nine districts in Greater Accra Region, Ghana. Originally it was formerly part of the then-larger Tema Municipal District, which was created from the former Tema District Council, until the eastern portion of the district was split off to create Kpone-Katamanso District on 28 June 2012, which was established by Legislative Instrument (L.I.) 2031; thus the remaining part has been retained as Tema Metropolitan District. However on 15 March 2018, it was later elevated to municipal district assembly status to become Kpone-Katamanso Municipal District, which was established by Legislative Instrument (L.I.) 2271. The municipality is located in the central part of Greater Accra Region and has Kpone as its capital town.
Amu or the Rice Festival is an annual harvest festival celebrated by the chiefs and people of Vane which is the traditional capital of the Avatime people. It is located in the Ho West District in the Volta Region of Ghana. It is usually celebrated in the last week in the month of November to December. Others also claim it is celebrated around September or October.
Jintigi (Fire) Festival is an annual festival celebrated by the chiefs and people of Gonja Traditional Area in the Savannah Region, formally the Northern region of Ghana. Damongo which is the capital of Gonjaland serves as the epicenter of the festival. It is usually celebrated in the month of April.
Boaram Festival is an annual harvest festival celebrated by the chiefs and people of Talensis in the Bongo Traditional Area in the Upper East Region of Ghana. It is usually celebrated between the months of October and November.
Ahumkan Festival is an annual festival celebrated by the chiefs and people of Kibi in the Eastern Region of Ghana. It is usually celebrated in the month of June.
Gyenpren Festival is an annual festival celebrated by the chiefs and people of Kwahu Tafo in the Eastern Region of Ghana. It is usually celebrated in the month of June.
