Krishna Kumari Rai (born 1977) is an Indian politician from Sikkim. She belongs to Sikkim Krantikari Morcha party and was elected as a member of the Legislative Assembly to the 11th Sikkim Legislative Assembly but resigned a day after taking the oath. [2]
Kumari Rai graduated from Sikkim Government Degree College,University of North Bengal in 1993. [3] She married Prem Singh Tamang,the chief minister of Sikkim. They have a son Aditya Tamang. She belongs to Rai community.
Kumari Rai won the 2024 Sikkim Legislative Assembly election representing Sikkim Krantikari Morcha from Namchi–Singhithang Assembly constituency in Namchi district. But she resigned after a day of taking the oath. It is reported that the party fielded her to get an entry into the constituency which is dominated by Rai community. [4] Her son is expected to contest from this seat in the by-election. [2] She polled 7901 votes and defeated her nearest rival SDF's Bimal Rai by a margin of 5302 votes. [5]
Pawan Kumar Chamling is an Indian politician and writer who served as the 5th Chief Minister of Sikkim from 1994 to 2019. He is the longest serving Chief Minister of Sikkim and India,surpassing Jyoti Basu. Chamling is the Founding President of the Sikkim Democratic Front. He also served as the Leader of the opposition,Sikkim Legislative Assembly in the year of 2019. He represents the Namchi-Singhithang constituency in the Sikkim Legislative Assembly since 2019 till 2024 and the Damthang constituency from 1985 to 1994. Prior to establishing the Sikkim Democratic Front,Chamling served as Minister for Industries,Information and Public Relations from 1989 to 1992 in Nar Bahadur Bhandari's cabinet.
