Kriskal Persaud (born 1975 in Berbice) is a Guyanese chess player of Indian descent and one of the country's leading players, he is the current national chess champion of Guyana.
Persaud first came to attention locally as a 12-year-old junior player. In 1988, he was crowned national junior chess champion after participating in the national chess championships. After a break from the game in 1992, when the Guyana Chess Federation's venue got into difficulty, he continued playing. He won the Guyanese national chess championship in 2007 and has defeated players such as Ronuel Greenidge and Taffin Khan.
He retained his title in November–December 2008.
Guyanese literature covers works including novels, poetry, plays and others written by people born or strongly-affiliated with Guyana. Formerly British Guiana, British language and style has an enduring impact on the writings from Guyana, which are done in English language and utilizing Guyanese Creole. Emigration has contributed to a large body of work relating the Guyanese diaspora experience.
Peter "Lauchmonen" Kempadoo was a writer and broadcaster from Guyana. He also worked as a development worker in the Caribbean, Africa and Asia. He moved in 1953 to the UK, where he built a career in print journalism as well as radio and television broadcasting, and published two novels, Guiana Boy in 1960 — the first novel by a Guyanese of Indian descent — and Old Thom's Harvest in 1965, before returning to Guyana in 1970. He died in London, aged 92.

Taffin Khan is a Guyanese chess player. He has competed at the Guyana National Chess Championships and is the 2008 junior chess champion of Guyana. He has played matches with players such as Kriskal Persaud, Wendell Meusa, Rashad Phoenixx Hussain, Llambi Pasko, Raymond Song, Filip Pancevski, and Carlos A Juarez Flores. On January 9, 2009, Khan was honoured for his victory in the 2008 national chess championship at a prize giving ceremony at Ramphal House in which he received his trophy from the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport in Guyana, Frank Anthony. Khan has been described by noted Guyanese chess player and head of the Guyana Chess Federation, Errol Tiwari, as, "a person serious about his games, coming from a family of chess players and may have been the reason why he won 14 games and will be moving on to the senior level for the second tournament".
Nicolette Fernandes, is a professional squash player who represented Guyana. She won the only gold medal for Guyana at the 2006 Central American and Caribbean Games in Colombia beating Samantha Terán in the final which lasts in 5 sets. In 2007, Fernandes suffered a knee injury which kept her out of action for 23 months.
Bernadette Indira Persaud is a Guyanese painter. She is a graduate of the University of Guyana and of the Burrows School of Art in Georgetown. Her style is expressionistic, and bears some resemblance to the work of Isaiah James Boodhoo, Wendy Nanan, and Kenwyn Crichlow of Trinidad and Tobago. Persaud has also written about art for numerous Guyanese publications.

The Guyanese junior team have competed in the BWF World Junior Championships mixed team event, which is also called the Suhandinata Cup.
