Kristin Green is the director of the Australian architecture practice Kristin Green Associates architecture (KGA architecture) based in Melbourne, Australia.

Early life and education

Green was born in Melbourne, and studied architecture at RMIT University, graduating in 2004. Her thesis was published in the 2001 RMIT Architecture Design Thesis Major Projects catalogue of student work, The Bold and the Beautiful. [1]

Career

Having worked for a variety of Melbourne architectural practices, such as Hassell, BKK Architects, Peter Mills, Boschler and Taylor Cullity Lethlean (TCL), in 2009 Green established KGA Architecture. At TCL, Green was part of the project team on the multi-award winning Craigieburn Bypass project. [2]

In 2014, her project La Plage du Pacifique was included in the Sustainable Empires [3] exhibition at the Palace Albrizzi as part of the collateral events for the 2014 Venice Architecture Biennale, Fundamentals, directed by Rem Koolhaas. In 2015, she is an invited speaker at Risk, the Australian Institute of Architects National Conference. [4]

Green teaches design regularly at RMIT and Melbourne Universities. She is active in Australian architecture culture as a member of the Australian Institute of Architects and sat on the Interior Architecture Awards Jury in 2014. [5]

Her project, La Plage du Pacifique, features on the cover of RMIT's Innovation Professor of Architecture Leon Van Schaik’s 2015 book Practical Poetics in Architecture. [6]

Matthew David Bird is an experimental architect, artist and academic from Melbourne, Australia. He practices across a range of disciplines including interior design, set-design, sculpture, installation art and architecture. Searle X Waldron is an Australian architecture firm based in St Kilda, Melbourne. It is an emerging firm co-founded by Nick Searle and Suzannah Waldron in 2007. The firm focuses on projects ranging from small scale residential to larger scale urban master-planning. Some of their notable projects and design competitions include the MoCAPE and Art Gallery of Ballarat Annexe which have managed to attain various awards from the Australian Institute of Architects, including the 2012 Colorbond Award for Steel Architecture and 2012 Architecture Award for Public Architecture Alteration & Additions. Their designs have been exhibited across Australia and throughout Asia and Europe.

Guilford Marsh Bell was an Australian architect active following from World War II until his death in 1992. During his early studies Bell travelled extensively, drawing influences that were later reflected for his projects. Bell worked prolifically both individually and in various partnerships, allowing him to produce many architectural works. Uncommonly, Bell contributed to local and interstate projects including homesteads, pavilions, suburban houses, large commercial and industrial establishments. Bell died in Melbourne in 1992. His latest practice continues under the directorship of Graham Fisher.

Eli (Elisabetta) Giannini AM is an Australian architect and director of MGS Architects in Melbourne. Giannini completed her architectural undergraduate studies at RMIT University in 1983 and Master of Design (Thesis) in 1903, entitled ‘Metro-scape’. Soon after her undergraduate studies in 1989, she joined MGS Architects with Robert McGauran and Mun Soon. In 2002 she was selected as President of the Victorian Chapter of the Australian Institute of Architects, a position occupied until 2004.

Harriet Edquist is an Australian historian and curator, and Professor Emerita in the School of Architecture and Urban Design at RMIT University in Melbourne. Born and educated in Melbourne, she has published widely on and created numerous exhibitions in the field of Australian architecture, art and design history. She has also contributed to the production of Australian design knowledge as the founding editor of the RMIT Design Archives Journal and is a member of the Design Research Institute at RMIT University.

Robert Owen is an Australian artist and curator. He lives and works in Melbourne, Australia.

The Melbourne Prize is awarded annually by a jury appointed by the Victorian chapter of the Australian Institute of Architects to architectural projects that have made a significant contribution to the civic life of Melbourne, Australia. It was first awarded in 1997 to Six Degrees Architects for the small bar Meyers Place.
