Cooper was born in New York City. Her father, Rex Cooper, is an American pianist and former professor at the University of the Pacific and her mother, Mutsuko Tatman, is a violinist of Japanese descent [1] and concertmaster of the American Symphony Orchestra. Cooper is the granddaughter of the Japanese composer Tomojiro Ikenouchi [2] and the great granddaughter of haiku poet Takahama Kyoshi. [3] She began her musical studies on the piano before transitioning to the cello. She has received her Bachelors and Masters in Music, and Doctorate in Musical Arts from the Juilliard School. She serves as a visiting professor at Tel Aviv University in Israel.
As a musician, Cooper has premiered works by composers including Ryuichi Sakamoto, Philip Glass, Mario Davidovsky, Josef Bardanashvili, Roberto Sierra, and Patrick Zimmerli. She has collaborated with artists including Tan Dun, Mitsuko Uchida, Hilary Hahn, Cho-Liang Lin, Wu Man, Anne Akiko Meyers, Hyung-ki Joo and Barry Douglas. She has performed as both a solo artist and a chamber musician at venues including The Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, Avery Fisher Hall, The Kennedy Center, Kioi Hall in Tokyo, the Henry Crown Theater in Jerusalem and Radio France. She has played as a soloist with orchestras including The Toronto Symphony, the Shanghai Symphony, the Stockton (California) Symphony and the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra. She was a founding member of the Naumburg Award Winning Quartet, The Whitman Quartet, and Intersection Trio, formerly known as Kristina & Laura. She is a member of the classical group Opus X, including Lidia Baich, Ukrainian-Danish pianist Tanja Zapolski, and Danish-British clarinetist Lone Madsen.
Cooper is a published author as a contributing essayist in the book My Jerusalem published by the Gefen Publishing House.
She made her solo debut at Carnegie Hall with the Tel Aviv Academy Orchestra. She was the musical director of The Israel Chamber Music Society, and is currently on the board of the America Israel Cultural Foundation. [4]
Cooper converted to Judaism and currently spends her time between New York and Tel Aviv with her husband, Leonard Rosen, an investment banker, whom she married in 2006. [5] [6] They have three children.
Cooper performs on the ‘ex-Havemeyer’ Guadagnini cello of c. 1743 and a William Forster II cello of 1786.

Gavriel Lipkind is an Israeli classical cellist based in The Netherlands. Lipkind made his radio debut performance aged eight, left Israel at an age of about 18, and received degrees from three music colleges. He won awards in music competitions and performed with orchestras until 2002, when he took time off from touring for three years to study music and revise his repertoire. Lipkind released two albums in 2006 and tours solo and with the Lipkind-Quartet.

Liat Cohen is a Franco-Israeli classical guitarist. Born in Tel Aviv, Cohen is the recipient of concert diplomas and first prizes from the Schola Cantorum de Paris and the Conservatoire de Paris, a laureate of the École Normale de Musique de Paris, and the winner of international competitions in Rome and Paris. Cohen was the first classical guitarist to receive the Nadia and Lili Boulanger Prize awarded by the Foundation of France.
Ella Milch-Sheriff is an Israeli composer, winner of ACUM award for lifetime achievfment (2022). Born in Haifa, Israel, Milch-Sheriff began her career as a composer at the age of 12. During her military service she composed, performed and interpreted her own songs after which she returned to classical music studying composition under the direction of Professor Tzvi Avni and graduating in composition from the Rubin Academy of Music at Tel Aviv University.
Yona Ettlinger was a clarinetist who played and taught in Israel, France and England. Ettlinger is considered a prominent classical clarinetist of his generation, and one of Israel's notable instrumentalists. His musicianship and unique sound influenced the art of clarinet playing in Israel and Europe in the second half of the 20th century. Many clarinet soloists and orchestra players of different countries were among his students.
Quartet San Francisco is a non-traditional and eclectic string quartet led by violinist Jeremy Cohen. The group played their first concert in 2001 and has recorded five albums.
