Abdul Kuddus Boyati (born 1947) is a Bangladeshi folk singer. [1] [2] He is often mentioned as Folk Superstar by Bangladeshi media. [3] [4]

Early life

Kuddus was born in 1947 at Rajibpur village, Kendua Upazila of Netrokona District during the time of the British Raj. [5] Due to financial problem, he didn't have the opportunity to study and started music practice at the age of 11. [5] Later, he came to Dhaka in search of work where he met Director Afzal Hossain and started his career by performing in the folk related music documentaries. [5]

Music

Kuddus collaborated with other musicians including Kangalini Sufia, Abdur Rahman Boyati and Anusheh Anadil. [6]

Anusheh Anadil is a Bangladeshi musician, artist, cultural activist, and social entrepreneur. The band 'Bangla' was the first female lead band from Bangladesh that became iconically popular in both Bangladesh and West Bengal (India), for their first album Kingkortobbobimuro (2002). Their rendition of spiritual folk songs, along with their own original songs, became a revolution for bringing the sounds of the village bard into popular culture. They helped popularize the philosophy of Fakir Lalon Shai, as a breath of fresh air, to the urban youth. Bangla's second album Prottutponnomotitto (2005) is a tribute to Fakir Lalon Shai. The album questions religious extremism and corrupt politics by using songs of the insightful mystic. The band 'Bangla' inspired many young musicians from both sides of Bengal to rediscover their roots.

<i>Oggatonama</i> 2016 film

Oggatonama is a 2016 Bangladeshi drama film directed and written by Tauquir Ahmed. It was selected as the Bangladeshi entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 89th Academy Awards, but it was not nominated. The film stars Fazlur Rahman Babu, Shahiduzzaman Selim, Mosharraf Karim, Nipun Akter, Shatabdi Wadud, and several others. Oggatonama was released on 19 August 2016 in Bangladesh by Impress Telefilm. It is about a Bangladeshi migrant who dies after illegally entering the United Arab Emirates with a fake passport. The Bangladesh police receive the wrong corpse.

Saidur Rahman Boyati is a Bangladesh folk singer of Baul genre. He was awarded Shilpakala Padak in 2013 and Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer in 1995.

Leila Arjumand Banu was a Bangladeshi singer and social activist.
