Kumudini Hospital is private hospital in Tangail that is managed by Kumudini Welfare Trust. [1] The hospital is funded by the trust and provides healthcare (not free). [2]

History

Kumudini Hospital was founded in 1938 by Ranadaprasad Saha in Mirzapur Upazila, Tangail District on the banks of Louhajang River. It started operations on 27 July 1944. It was inaugurated by Richard Casey, Baron Casey, the governor of Bengal. It originally started out with 20 beds. In 1970, the hospital started tuberculosis unit, the first such unit outside of Dhaka. [3] The hospital has since been upgraded to a 750-bed facility. [4]

Ranadaprasad Saha, his son, and staff members of Kumudini hospital were killed by the Pakistan Army during the Bangladesh Liberation war. [5] [6] The hospital started providing free tele-medicine services following the COVID-19 pandemic in Bangladesh. [7]

Abdul Kader Siddique is a Bangladeshi politician. He served as a Mukti Bahini member and organizer of the Bangladesh Liberation War. He fought with an estimated 17,000-strong guerrilla force in the Tangail region against the Pakistan Army. The army was called Kaderia Bahini. At the end of the war in 1971, Siddique's forces entered Dhaka along with the Indian forces, signaling the end of the war. He was awarded Bir Uttom by the Government of Bangladesh. Since 1999, he has been serving as the leader of his newly formed party, the Krishak Sramik Janata League.

He established the institution for the girls education and named it after his grandmother Bharateswari Devi. In 2020, the school was given Independence Day Award, the highest civilian honor of Bangladesh, for its contribution to education.

Pratibha Mutsuddi is a Bangladeshi academic and language activist. She participated in the Bengali Language Movement in 1952. She served as the director and principal of Kumudini Welfare Trust, a welfare foundation founded by Ranadaprasad Saha in 1947. She was awarded Ekushey Padak in 2002 by the Government of Bangladesh for her contribution to education.

Kumudini Welfare Trust is one of the oldest and largest charitable organisations in Bangladesh and is located in Tangail District.

Mohera Zamindar Bari is a 19th-century Zamidari residence in Mirzapur, Tangail District, Bangladesh. It is used as a police training school. The zamindar house was established in the mirzapur before the 1890s. Mohera zamindar Bari is the most preserved and maintained zamindari Bari of Bangladesh locally. There is no such zamindari Bari as preserved and maintained as it is in the country. The zamindari Bari represents our culture, lifestyle, and history during British time.
