Kuntala Ghosh Dastidar

Kuntala Ghosh Dastidar (23 June 1962) is a former Indian women's football player. She captained the Indian team that played the 1981 World Cup. It does not count in statistics because at that time FIFA did not recognise the women's game. Some of the other players who played in the 1981 World Cup are Shanti Mullick, Minati Roy and Judy D'Silva. Kuntala later took up coaching [1] and also became a football referee. [2] She started 'Bandhu Collective' to coach the players from under-privileged families, including from the Red Light areas. [3]

Early life

Kuntala home was near the Vivekananda Park and she used to go regularly to the park along with her uncle Sujit Ghosh Dastidar. When she was young, she got an offer from renowned Satyajit Ray to act as ‘Durga’ in a movie but encouraged by her uncle she preferred football and politely refused the offer. In June 1975, Arati Bannerjee, wife of PK Bannerjee, organised a football match for women for the first time and Kuntala was part of the 16-member team that was selected from the 150 that turned out that day. Many of them, including Kuntala, went on to play for the National team. She worked and played for Railways. [4]

Kazi Md. Salahuddin is a Bangladeshi former football player currently serving as the president of South Asian Football Federation and Bangladesh Football Federation. Byomkesh was a 2014 Indian Bengali crime fiction television series based on the Bengali sleuth Byomkesh Bakshi created by Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay. The series starred Gaurav Chakrabarty, Saugata Bandyopadhyay and Ridhima Ghosh as Byomkesh Bakshi, Ajit and Satyabati respectively. Sushil Bhattacharya was an Indian professional football player and coach, who is credited for becoming the first manager of the India women's national football team. He was also the first head coach in history of East Bengal Club.

Shanti Mullick is an Indian former women's footballer who played as a forward for the India women's national football team. Mullick is the first Indian women's footballer to receive the Arjuna Award, the second-highest Indian sports award.

Chitra Gangadharan is a former Indian women's football player from Karnataka. She also captained the Indian team and was part of the All Stars Asian team in 1977–78. She was part of the Senior India Women's Football team from 1975 to 1981.
