The Kurosh School (sometimes anglicized as Cyrus School) was a school founded in 1931 in Tehran by members of its Iranian Jewish community. [1] [2] It was largely the idea of the Zionist activists Farajollah Hakem and Habib Levy, but the two also received help from Esmail Hayy, Aziz Elqanyan, Rabbi Azizollah ben Yuna Na'im and several others. [1] The Kurosh School was initially founded as an elementary institution; however, it soon expanded to also offer high school grades. [1] In contrast to the schools founded by the Alliance Israélite Universelle, the Kurosh School emphasized Hebrew and Persian rather than French. [1]
Moshe haDarshan was chief of the yeshiva of Narbonne, and perhaps the founder of Jewish exegetical studies in France. Along with Rashi, his writings are often cited as the first extant writings in Zarphatic, the Judæo-French language.
Isaac-Jacob Adolphe Crémieux was a French lawyer and politician who served as Minister of Justice under the Second Republic (1848) and Government of National Defense (1870–1871). Raised Jewish, he served as president of the Alliance Israélite Universelle, secured French citizenship for Algerian Jews under French rule through the Crémieux Decree (1870), and was a staunch defender of the rights of the Jews of France.

It promotes the ideals of Jewish self-defense and self-sufficiency through education and professional development. The organization is noted for establishing French-language schools for Jewish children throughout the Mediterranean, Iran, and the former Ottoman Empire in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
Mikveh Israel is a youth village and boarding school in the Tel Aviv District of central Israel, established in 1870. It was the first Jewish agricultural school in what is now Israel and indeed the first modern Jewish settlement in Palestine under the Ottoman Empire rule outside of Jerusalem, heralding a new era in the history of the region. In 2022 it had a population of 421.
Menahem Shemuel Halevy was a prominent Iranian Rabbi of the early 20th century. He fought against persecution in Iran and wrote numerous books.
Shiraz pogrom or Shiraz blood libelof 1910 was a pogrom of the Jewish quarter in Shiraz, Iran, on October 30, 1910, organized by the Qavam family and sparked by accusations that the Jews had ritually killed a Muslim girl. In the course of the pogrom, 12 Jews were killed and about 50 were injured, and 6,000 Jews of Shiraz were robbed of all their possessions. The event was documented by the representative of the Alliance Israélite Universelle in Shiraz.

Charles Netter, was a founding member of the Alliance Israélite Universelle. In 1870, Netter founded Mikveh Israel, the first modern Jewish agricultural settlement in the Land of Israel.

Zaki Cohen born in 1829 in Aleppo in the Ottoman Empire, was a Chief Rabbi of the Jewish community in Beirut, Lebanon and a playwright. In 1874, he founded Beirut's first modern Jewish school, called Tiferet Yisrael in Hebrew and al-Madrasa al-Waṭaniyya al-Isrāʾīliyya in Arabic, where he served as director. The school continued to operate until 1899, when it was superseded by College Alliance Israelite Universelle of Beirut. Cohen died in Alexandria in 1904.

L’Avenir Illustré was a francophone Jewish periodical published in Casablanca, Morocco, from 1926 to 1940. Its editorial line was Zionist and its targeted readership was primarily the Westernized Jewish elite in Morocco, especially francophone graduates of Alliance Israélite Universelle schools. The periodical was founded by Jonathan Thursz (1895–1976), an Ashkenazi Jew from Poland who studied in Belgium and settled in Morocco under the French protectorate.
