Kurt-Curry Axel Wegscheider (born 30 May 2001) is a Central African basketball playrer for Bangui Sporting Club of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). He played college basketball for New Mexico, USU Eastern and Lubbock Christian.

Early life

Wegscheider was born in Bangui to a German father of French origin, and his mother was a former professional basketball player in the Central African Republic. After playing association football first, Wegscheider picked up basketball at age five. At age 14, he joined the NBA Academy Africa in Senegal where he played five years. [1] He also played in the Basketball Without Borders program and was named MVP of the all-star game.

College career

Starting from the 2019–20 season, Wegscheider joined the New Mexico program. [2]

From 2021, he played for the USU Eastern, averaging 14.4 points and 4.3 rebounds in his only season with the Golden Eagles. At the end of his only season there, he joined Lubbock Christian University.

Professional career

On 4 April 2024, Bangui Sporting Club announced Wegscheider had signed with them for the 2024 BAL season, the team's debut season in the Basketball Africa League (BAL). [3] On 19 April, Wegscheider made his professional debut and had 3 points and 4 rebounds in 12 minutes of play in a 71–93 loss to Al-Ahly Ly. [4]

National team career

Wegscheider plays for the Central African Republic national basketball team, and represented his country at AfroBasket 2021. [5]

The 2024 BAL season, also known as BAL Season 4, was the 4th season of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). The season began on 9 March 2024 and ended with the final on 1 June 2024, which was played in the BK Arena in Kigali, Rwanda for a fourth consecutive season.

The Al Ahly Ly men's basketball team played the 2023–24 season domestically in the Libyan Division I Basketball League and internationally in the Basketball Africa League (BAL).

The 2024 BAL Nile Conference was the 3rd season of the Nile Conference, one of the three conferences of the 2024 season of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). The composition of the conference and the schedule were announced on 15 February 2024. The conference games began on 19 April and ended on 27 April 2024.

The 2023–24 season of Bangui Sporting Club marks the debut season of the team in the Basketball Africa League (BAL), following their successful qualification through the Road to BAL. Bangui SC becomes the first team from the Central African Republic to play in the competition.
