Kurtna is a village in Alutaguse Parish, Ida-Viru County in northeastern Estonia. [1]
Lääne-Viru County is one of 15 counties of Estonia. It is in northern Estonia, on the south coast of the Gulf of Finland. In Estonian, lääne means western and ida means east or eastern. Lääne-Viru borders Ida-Viru County to the east, Jõgeva County to the south, and Järva and Harju counties to the west. In January 2013, Lääne-Viru County had a population of 58,806: 4.5% of the population in Estonia.

The Sõtke is a 24 km (15 mi) long river in Ida-Viru County, Estonia. Its source is near Isandajärv which is located in the northern part of the Kurtna Lake District. The Sõtke flows into the Gulf of Finland in the town of Sillamäe. The basin area of the Pirita is 93.7 km2
The Kurtna Lake District is located in north-eastern Estonia. It consists of about 40 lakes within an area of 30 hectares. The lakes were formed while the area was glaciated.
The Administrative and Research Centre for the Kurtna Experimental Poultry Farm is one of the major works of Estonian architect Valve Pormeister. Located in Kurtna, Harju County, Estonia and built in 1966, it is the first example of modern architecture in a rural setting and marks the emergence of a new type of modern scientific institution building. It became a model building that was set up as an example for others.
