Kwame Saarah-Mensah is a Ghanaian diplomat and politician. He served as Ghana's High Commissioner to India [1] and is a former Minister of Youth and Sports. He was the Chairman of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology Council. [2] [3] [4]

Diplomatic career

In the early 1980s Saarah-Mensah was appointed by the Chairman of the Provisional National Defence Council, Jerry John Rawlings to serve Ghana's High Commissioner to India replacing Silverster Kwadwo Ankama [5] He served from January 1984 to December 1988. [6] [7]

Politics

Saarah-Mensah served as Brong-Ahafo Regional Secretary and the secretary equivalent to Regional Minister. [8] [9] He also served as the secretary in charge of Ministry of Youth and Sports from 1988 to 1991. [10] [11] [12]

The Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) was the name of the Ghanaian government after the People's National Party's elected government was overthrown by Jerry Rawlings, the former head of the Armed Forces Revolutionary Council, in a coup d'état on 31 December 1981. He remained in power until 7 January 1993. In a statement, Rawlings said that a "holy war" was necessary due to the PNP's failure to provide effective leadership and the collapse of the national economy and state services.

Prempeh College is a public secondary boarding school for boys located in Kumasi, the capital city of the Ashanti Region, Ghana. The school was founded in 1949 by the Asanteman traditional authority, the British Colonial Government, the Methodist Church Ghana and the Presbyterian Church of Ghana. The school is named after the King of Ashanti (Asantehene), Sir Osei Tutu Agyeman Prempeh II, who donated the land on which the school was built, and was modeled on Eton College in England.

Presbyterian Boys' Secondary School (PRESEC) is a secondary boarding school for boys. It is located in Legon, Accra, Ghana. It was founded in 1938, under the auspices of the Presbyterian Church of the Gold Coast. The Basel missionary-theologian, Nicholas Timothy Clerk (1862–1961), who served as the first Synod Clerk of the Presbyterian Church of the Gold Coast from 1918 to 1932, used his tenure to advocate for the establishment of the secondary school. The school has ties with its sister schools, Aburi Girls' Senior High School and Krobo Girls Senior High School.

Paul Victor ObengKSG also known as P. V. Obeng was a Ghanaian mechanical engineer and politician. He was the chairman of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology council. In 2010, he was appointed by the President John Atta Mills administration as Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC). Until his death, he was the Senior Presidential Adviser at Presidency to President John Dramani Mahama. He served under President's Jerry John Rawlings, John Evans Atta Mills and John Dramani Mahama in different capacities. He was a member and coordinating secretary and chairman of the Committee of Secretaries of the Provisional National Defence Council. He died on 17 May 2014.

Peter Twumasi is a Ghanaian biochemist, author, and professor at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. He was the director general of the National Sports Authority of Ghana from December 2018. until February 2024 when he left the position days following the tragic, suspicious and untimely death of his son, Jim Ofori Twumasi, a final year Economics student at KNUST.

Ato Austin was a Ghanaian politician. He was a member of the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) military government which ruled after the overthrow of the Limann government in December 1981. He held various portfolios in the government led by Jerry Rawlings.
