Career

Jones performed at NXNE, [5] The Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival [6] and Red Bull Sound Select [7] in 2014 while producing for Kirko Bangz [8] on Progression V. [9] During 2015, he released two singles: Patience [10] and Blink Away [11] with Sean Price; he also performed at the Billboard Hot 100 Fest at Jones Beach Theater. [12] After being personally picked by Chuck D to open for The Hip Hop Gods Tour in Los Angeles at The Novo (formerly Club Nokia), [13] Kydd opened for The Art Of Rap Fest at the Lakewood Amphitheatre in Atlanta during 2016. [14] He released Sounds in My Head 2: The Righteous Edition later that year with features from Skyzoo, [15] Yelawolf, [16] Pac Div, [17] A.Dd+, [18] Cory Kendrix, Max Frost, GLC & Tank Washington. [19] Jones performed at SXSW [20] and Austin City Limits Festival [21] in both 2018 and in 2019 with Gary Clark Jr [22] after releasing his album entitled Homecoming [23] as well as an EP with producer Insightful [24] of Soulection. He then followed that up by performing at Blues On The Green [25] during 2020 [26] and 2021 [27] and collaborating with the Round Rock Express to honor native Austinite and Negro league baseball legend Willie Wells and the Austin Black Senators at Dell Diamond. [28] In 2022, Kydd released his new album, Onyx D'Or [29] and was honored in his hometown of Austin, Texas by having September 1 declared Kydd Jones Day. [30]

Acts that have had break out appearances at NXNE at small venues early in their careers include: Lizzo, Daniel Caesar (2016), Run the Jewels (2014), Lumineers (2012), Grimes (2011), Gary Clark Jr. (2007), The Arkells (2007), Feist (2004), Billy Talent (1999) and thousands more. In its return post-COVID, the festival embraced its roots as a discovery event, programming exclusively in Toronto's live music venues, presenting over 200 of the world's best emerging acts bands in 20 venues over five nights from June 14–18, 2022.
