Kyle Shotwell is a former American football linebacker, best known for winning the 2006 Buck Buchanan Award, awarded annually to the national defensive player of the year in the NCAA's Football Championship Subdivision.

Early life

At the prep level, Shotwell starred at Goleta's Dos Pueblos High School, for which he was later selected to the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Hall of Fame in 2011. [1]

College career

Shotwell played the entirety of his NCAA career at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo. He was announced as the Buchanan Award recipient in December 2006 in Tennessee. [2] Shotwell collected 275 total voting points in the balloting for the award, including 23 first-place votes. [3]

Following making a game-high seven tackles in the East-West Shrine Game, leading the West squad to a 21–3 win at Reliant Stadium, [4] Shotwell won the Pat Tillman Award in 2007. [5]

Professional career

Shotwell signed an undrafted free-agent contract with the Oakland Raiders in 2007. [6] After being released by Oakland following the preseason, he joined the Philadelphia Eagles practice squad midway during the 2007 season.

He then signed with Indianapolis in January 2008, [7] but was released by the Colts on August 30 following the completion of the preseason. [8] However, in November 2008, he signed with Kansas City as a member of the Chiefs' practice squad, prior to becoming a coach in 2009. [9]

The Cal Poly Mustang Band, also known as The Pride of the Pacific, is the official marching band of California Polytechnic State University in the city of San Luis Obispo, California. Although the band is not a competitive marching band they serve as a school spirit organization. The band functions in two different forms throughout the year. In the fall the band marches as The Mustang Marching Band and during Cal Poly's winter quarter they function as a pep band. The band attends many athletic events during the year to encourage the school's athletic teams and audience support/involvement. The marching band is well-known around campus as an exciting and spirited group that brings pep, passion, and tradition to every performance. The marching band is conducted by three directors: Christopher J. Woodruff, Nicholas P. Waldron, and Len Kawamoto.

Jordan David Beck is a former American football linebacker. He played college football at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. He was selected by the Atlanta Falcons in the third round of the 2005 NFL Draft. After leaving the Falcons, Beck signed with the Denver Broncos and was later released after the 2008 preseason.

Robert Lee "Bobby" Howard was an American football defensive back. He played in the American Football League (AFL) for the San Diego Chargers, where he was a second-round selection in the 1967 Common Draft. He also played for the Chargers, Philadelphia Eagles, and New England Patriots in the National Football League (NFL).

Melvin Kaufman was an American professional football player who spent his entire eight-year career as a linebacker for the Washington Redskins of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Cal Poly Mustangs.
