L'Unione Sarda is a daily newspaper for the island of Sardinia. It is the oldest newspaper in Sardinia still publishing.
L'Unione Sarda was first published on 13 October 1889. [1] In its initial phase Raffa Gazia was the publisher of the paper. [2] It was a radical publication and Antonio Gramsci was among the contributors. [2] He published his first article in the paper. [3]
L'Unione Sarda is based in Cagliari [4] and owned by the Italian businessman Sergio Zuncheddu. Its publisher is L'Unione Sarda SPA. [4] The paper has four editions. [5] It has been the first European newspapers with its own website, launched in 1994. [6]
On its 120th anniversary of the establishment a commemorative stamp was published by the post of Italy on 13 October 2009. [1]
In 2004 the circulation of L'Unione Sarda was 66,700 copies. [7] The paper had a circulation of 68,332 copies in 2008. [8]
Antonio Francesco Gramsci was an Italian Marxist philosopher, linguist, journalist, writer, and politician. He wrote on philosophy, political theory, sociology, history, and linguistics. He was a founding member and one-time leader of the Italian Communist Party. A vocal critic of Benito Mussolini and fascism, he was imprisoned in 1926, where he remained until shortly before his death in 1937.

First published on 5 March 1876, Corriere della Sera is one of Italy's oldest newspapers and is Italy's most read newspaper. Its masthead has remained unchanged since its first edition in 1876. It reached a circulation of over 1 million under editor and co-owner Luigi Albertini between 1900 and 1925. He was a strong opponent of socialism, clericalism, and Giovanni Giolitti, who was willing to compromise with those forces during his time as prime minister of Italy. Albertini's opposition to the Italian fascist regime forced the other co-owners to oust him in 1925.

Distributed in Italy and other European nations, it is one of the oldest newspapers in Italy. Until the late 1970s and early 1980s, when the country underwent a nationalization process, La Stampa and Corriere della Sera were not real national daily newspapers, as their geographical area of circulation was mostly limited to Piedmont for La Stampa and Lombardy for Corriere della Sera; thus, both papers shared a readership that was linked to its place of residence and its social class, mostly from the industrialist class and financial circles. L'Ordine Nuovo was a weekly newspaper established on 1 May 1919, in Turin, Italy, by a group, including Antonio Gramsci, Angelo Tasca and Palmiro Togliatti, within the Italian Socialist Party. The paper was the successor of La Città futura, a broadsheet newspaper. The founders of L'Ordine Nuovo were admirers of the Russian Revolution and strongly supported the immediate creation of soviets in Italy. They believed that existing factory councils of workers could be strengthened so that they could become the basis of a communist revolution. However, Amadeo Bordiga, who would become the founder of the Communist Party of Italy, criticised the plan as syndicalism, saying that soviets should only be created after Italy had come under communist control.
