L.A. Symphony is an independent hip hop group from Los Angeles, California. [1] Current members of L.A. Symphony are FLYNN (also known as Flynn Adam), UNO Mas, CookBook, Joey the Jerk (formerly Joey's Dream), Sareem Poems (fka Sharlock Poems), Pigeon John and bTwice (collectively known as Brainwash Projects), and J-Beits a.k.a. Great Jason. Past members include Trendi MC (who compose Halieyoos Fishermen with Sharlok Poems and J-Beits), Coy (Paul "Coy" Allen), Xpress, Gaja and Beond of Acid Reign.

History

Formed in 1997, the band released their first album, 1999's Composition No. 1 on independent record label Eartube Empire. They then recorded an album entitled Call It What You Want between 1999 and 2001 for Squint Entertainment. [2] It contained tracks produced by the band and by Mario C, will.i.am and Prince Paul. It was slated to be released in April 2001 and was sold as a bootleg copy at live shows and online until unofficially released as CIWYW, in addition to a release a promotional EP titled Big Broke L.A. that contained tracks from Call It What You Want. The lead single was "Broken Tape Decks" and was released as a limited edition 12" vinyl and CD single, with B-Side "What You Say?!?". The album was never released due to issues with the label. [3]

LA Symphony independently released the Baloney EP in 2002. Originally, 1000 limited edition copies were pressed, hand-numbered and shipped in resealable sandwich bags. Baloney was later re-pressed.

Following the Baloney EP, L.A. Symphony was signed to Gotee Records. They then released The End Is Now in 2003, Less Than Zero in 2005 and Disappear Here in 2005. 2005 was also a year of personal tragedies for the band. [4] CCM reported that immediately after re-signing to Gotee, three members experienced personal traumas—UNO came down with Guillain–Barré syndrome, CookBook's father suffered from a stroke, and Joey's grandfather also died. [4]

In 2007, the group released a mixtape, Unleashed . Guests on the album include Posdnuos and Awol One.

In 2009, the members decided to put the group on hiatus. Since then several members have continued with solo projects.

On December 19, 2011, rumors started circulating (via bTwice's Twitter account) about a reunion of the group. The group would likely welcome back former members bTwice, Pigeon John, J-Beits (aka Great Jason), and J-BoogiE. [5] On February 15, 2012 it was announced by bTwice via Twitter that the group would play the 2012 Paid Dues festival. It was also said that former members Pigeon John, J-Beits (Great Jason), and bTwice will return to the group for this show.[ citation needed ]

In December 2014, released their first record together with all 8 members since 2003 in honor of their 15th anniversary called You Still on Earth!?!.

<i>The Ringleader</i> 2003 mixtape by DJ Maj

The Ringleader: Mixtape Volume III is a 2003 Christian hip hop album mixed by DJ Maj. It was his first commercial success. While it is his third mixtape for Gotee Records, his first two received little media attention. This DJ mix has an overall hip hop feel, but some tracks, specifically "Under Pressure", "A Friend", and "Showpiece", are more precisely rhythm and blues. While the album combines the talents of many different artists, the theme that God is in control is a maintained through all the tracks. The Ringleader marked the debut solo for Jason Eskridge, who had previously been a guest singer with GRITS in Grammatical Revolution. Other artists represented include tobyMac, Kirk Franklin, Out of Eden, LA Symphony, 4th Avenue Jones, Camp Quest, GRITS, Verbs, Bobby Bishop, Shonlock, and Pigeon John.

Brian James Reith, better known as B. Reith, is a Christian hip hop/pop singer and rapper. He began his musical career with the release of his first album, "Urgent Message", in 2003. Flynn Adam Atkins is an American producer, singer and rapper originating from Los Angeles, California. He is currently independent and has released an EP: Bang the Drums. Flynn Adam has also been featured numerous times on RadioU and TVU for his music video, "Such a Time", and is an active member of the hip hop music duo Rootbeer with fellow LA Symphony member Pigeon John. Flynn is also a member of famed Hip Hop crew LA Symphony.

<i>Unleashed</i> (LA Symphony album) 2007 studio album by L.A. Symphony

Unleashed is a mixtape by American hip hop group LA Symphony. It was released on August 14, 2007 via Syntax Records and contains unreleased songs, rarities and demos made from 1999 to 2006 and features verses from all the L.A. Symphony's original members. Production was handled by CookBook, Flynn Adam, Great Jason, Madlib, Overflo, Pigeon John, Will.i.am and UNO Mas. It features guest appearances from Awol One and Posdnuos. At the 39th GMA Dove Awards held in 2008, the album was nominated for a GMA Dove Award for Rap/Hip-Hop Album of the Year, but lost to Group 1 Crew's Group 1 Crew.

<i>Lovin the Day</i> 1994 studio album by Out of Eden

Lovin' the Day is the debut album of the Dove Award-winning American urban gospel group Out of Eden, released in 1994. It features sisters Lisa, Andrea, and Danielle Kimmey. It was the launch album of Gotee Records, and was the catalyst for the creation of the record label; founders of the label Toby McKeehan, Todd Collins, and Joey Elwood had wanted to produce the album, but after not being able to find a Record label to sign the act to, they formed Gotee Records and began distributing the band's material on their own. The album peaked at #10 on the Top Contemporary Christian music chart. It includes a cover of the Bill Withers hit Lovely Day.

Hazakim,, is a Christian hip hop duo originally from Columbus, Ohio. The group consists of brothers Michael "Mike" Wray and Anthony "Tony" Wray.
