LT Cortesia is a 90,465 GT container ship owned by German-based Conti Reederei, managed by NSB Niederelbe and operated as part of the Evergreen Line fleet. [2] [3]
She is the lead ship of a class of eight Post-Panamax ships with a capacity of 8,100 TEU, built between May 2005 and May 2006 by Samsung Heavy Industries, [4] the vessel was built to replace the 5,600-TEU U-type vessels then deployed. [5]
LT Cortesia, like all ships in the class, are on a long-term charter to the Evergreen Line fleet from Conti-NSB/Germany. [3]
On 2 January 2008 at 0500 GMT the container ship LT Cortesia ran aground in the Dover Strait. The ship was en route to the Suez Canal when it ran aground on Varne Bank, nine miles south west of Dover. [6] [7] Later in the day, when the tide rose, she was refloated and towed to The Downs for inspection. [2] [8] After an inspection on 3 January she was declared seaworthy and resumed her journey. [9]

MS Pride of Kent was a cross-channel ferry operated by P&O Ferries, it operated on the Dover to Calais route from 2003 until its retirement in June 2023. Before that, between 1992 and 2002, it had operated on the Dover to Zeebrugge route.
London Thamesport was a small container seaport on the River Medway, serving the North Sea. It is located on the Isle of Grain, in the Medway unitary authority district of the English county of Kent. The area was formerly called Port Victoria. Since early 2020, Thamesport has ceased to operate as a container port, having been eclipsed by the new and much larger London Gateway container port on the Essex coast of the Thames Estuary.
ICGV Óðinn is a decommissioned offshore patrol vessel formerly operated by the Icelandic Coast Guard. She is the oldest ship in the coastguard's fleet, and it is believed that her Burmeister & Wain engines are the only such engines that are still serviceable in the world today. Since her withdrawal from active duty, she has served as a floating exhibit at the Reykjavík Maritime Museum in Reykjavík Harbour. The ship is still maintained, and operative as of June 2022.
MSC Napoli was a United Kingdom-flagged container ship that developed a hull breach due to rough seas and slamming in the English Channel on 18 January 2007. She was deliberately run aground at Lyme Bay to avoid an environmental disaster and broken up by salvors.
Riverdance was a roll-on/roll-off ferry in service with Seatruck Ferries on the Irish Sea. On 31 January 2008 she was hit by a wave that caused her cargo to shift and she beached at Blackpool, very close to the boundary with Cleveleys. Large amounts of the ship's cargo was spilled overboard after the ship ran aground, resulting in much of it being salvaged by members of the public. Attempts to refloat her failed, and she was scrapped on site during 2008.
MSC Flaminia is a German container ship which caught fire on 14 July 2012, claiming three lives and forcing the crew to abandon ship in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. After the fire had been brought under control, the stricken container ship was towed to Europe and arrived at Wilhelmshaven, Germany, on 9 September 2012. In March 2013, she departed Wilhelmshaven for Mangalia, Romania for repairs which were finished in July 2014. The ship is currently sailing under the name CMA CGM San Francisco.
CSCL Indian Ocean is a container ship, operated by China Shipping Container Lines. She was built in Ulsan, Korea, by Hyundai Heavy Industries, and launched on November 15, 2014. At the time of her construction she, and her four sister ships, CSCL Globe, CSCL Pacific Ocean, CSCL Atlantic Ocean and CSCL Arctic Ocean, were the largest container ships afloat, each carrying 19,100 twenty-foot equivalent unit containers. Chinese officials said the vessels cost $136 million each to build.
The Evergreen G class is a series of 11 container ships built for Evergreen Marine by Imabari Shipbuilding in Japan. The maximum theoretical capacity of these ships is in the range of 20,124 to 20,388 standard shipping containers.

Ever Given is registered in Panama and her technical management is the responsibility of the German ship management company Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement.
The Suez Canal was blocked for six days from 23 to 29 March 2021 by the Ever Given, a container ship that had run aground in the canal.
The 334-metre-long 'LT Cortesia' is one of eight 'C' type vessels being introduced on this service in the coming months to replace the 5,600-TEU 'U' type vessels currently deployed.
