Although he's not a fan of Madonna, Beahan wanted to see how her songs would sound when covered by different musicians.

Denver died in October 1997 when the single engine plane he was piloting crashed off the coast of California. The album has been praised by some as a way to help Denver's catalogue reach a new, younger audience.
