The La Salle Explorers women's basketball team is the women's college basketball program representing La Salle University, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. [2] [3]
As of the 2015–16 season, La Salle has a 655–553 record. The Explorers joined the A10 in 1996 after leaving the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference in 1992. They were regular season champs of the MAAC in 1987, 1988, 1989, and 1992 (with an appearance in the NCAA Tournament in the first three but not the latter, though they did play in the WNIT). They won the tournament in 1986, which remains their only conference championship. [4]

The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference is a collegiate athletic conference affiliated with NCAA Division I. Of its current 11 full members, 10 are located in three states of the northeastern United States: Connecticut, New Jersey, and New York. The other member is in Maryland.
The La Salle Explorers are the varsity sports teams from La Salle University in Philadelphia. The Explorers compete in NCAA Division I as members of the Atlantic 10 Conference. The men's and women's basketball teams are also participate in the Philadelphia Big 5. On June 3, 2019, Brian Baptiste was named Director of Athletics and Recreation effective August 1, 2019. Baptiste currently serves as Deputy AD for Capital Projects and Operations at Northwestern University.

John Manfredo Giannini is an American college basketball coach. He served as the head men's basketball coach at Rowan University from 1989 to 1996, the University of Maine from 1996 to 2004, and La Salle University from 2004 to 2018. Giannini led Rowan to an NCAA Division III men's basketball tournament championship in 1996.
The Temple Owls men's basketball team represents Temple University in the sport of basketball. The Owls compete in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I as a member of the American Athletic Conference. They play their home games in the Liacouras Center on the university's main campus in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and are currently led by head coach Aaron Mckie. Temple is the fifth-most winningest NCAA Division I men's college basketball program of all time, with 1,903 wins at the end of the 2017–18 season. Although they have reached the NCAA Tournament over thirty times, they are one of nine programs with that many appearances to have not won the Tournament and one of four to have never reached the National Championship Game.

The 2017 Atlantic 10 Conference women's soccer tournament was the postseason women's soccer tournament for the Atlantic 10 Conference held from October 28 through November 5, 2017. The quarterfinals of the tournament were held at campus sites, while the semifinals and final took place at Sports Backers Stadium in Richmond, Virginia. The eight-team single-elimination tournament consisted of three rounds based on seeding from regular season conference play. The defending tournament champions were the Dayton Flyers, but they were eliminated from the 2017 tournament with a 3–2 quarterfinal loss to the La Salle Explorers. La Salle won the tournament, their third Atlantic 10 tournament championship in program history, all of which have come under the direction of head coach Paul Royal, and all three of which were decided in overtime periods.

Led by sixth-year head coach Speedy Morris, the team finished second in the conference regular season standings. The Explorers won the MAAC tournament to gain an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament as the No. 13 seed in the East region. La Salle would lose in the opening round to Seton Hall, a game they led by as many as 8 points, 78–76.
The 1953–54 NCAA men's basketball season began in December 1953, progressed through the regular season and conference tournaments, and concluded with the 1954 NCAA basketball tournament championship game on March 20, 1954, at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Missouri. The La Salle Explorers won their first NCAA national championship with a 92–76 victory over the Bradley Braves.
