The Bank of Mauritius Tower is a skyscraper in Port Louis, the capital of Mauritius, and a home to Bank of Mauritius. It is the tallest building of the country. When measured to roof, it stands at 98 m (321 ft) and to pinnacle at 124 m (407 ft). The 16,834 m² reinforced concrete structure reached its final height in May 2006. The 22-storey building towers over the Citadel and is constructed in an area where highrises were once prohibited. It is also the second tallest structure in Mauritius after the much taller 183 m (600 ft) Bigara Station Transmitter in the upper Plaines Wilhems.
L'Express is a French-language daily newspaper, published in Mauritius since 1963 and owned by La Sentinelle, Ltd. L'Express endeavours to cover Mauritian news in an independent and impartial manner, as described in its code of conduct for journalists. It is the most widely-read daily in Mauritius and endeavors to keep up with the latest trends in journalism and the newspaper business. The Sunday version of L'Express is called L'Express Dimanche.
René Binet was a French fascist political activist. Initially a Trotskyist in the 1930s, he espoused fascism during World War II and joined the SS Charlemagne Division. Soon after the end of the war, Binet became involved in numerous neo-fascist and white supremacist publications and parties. He wrote the 1950 book Théorie du racisme, deemed influential on the European far-right at large. Binet died in a car accident in 1957, aged 44.

The 1999 Mauritian riots were national-scale rioting and protests in Mauritius following the death of the popular "seggae" musician Joseph Réginald Topize, better known by his stage name "Kaya", in police custody. The rioting lasted for four days from 21 to 25 February 1999. Four civilians and one police officer were killed in the riots with hundreds of people suffering injuries. It was the first incidence of mass rioting in Mauritius since the country's 1968 riots. The riots resulted in a majority of the island's police stations being sacked by protesters with 250 prisoners escaping prison. Many businesses were looted and substantial property damage was done with over 200 vehicles being set on fire.
