Lachlan Bassett (born 4 November 1999) is an Australian male canoeist who was a finalist at the senior level at the 2018 and 2019 Wildwater Canoeing World Championships. [1]

Contents

Lachlan Bassett has also been a Paddle Australia Athlete since 2015 where he competed in his first ICF Wildwater World Championships in the United States as well as a Canoe Slalom world championships in 2016, 2017 and 2020. As well as being on the senior Wildwater World championships team he was a reserve Team member for The 2019 U23 National Canoe Slalom Team and selected for the 2020 U23 Canoe Slalom World championships. Lachlan has come 5th, 6th, 6th, 9th at Two World Championships, as well as coming 30th and 23rd at Canoe Slalom World Championships.

Jiřina Valenta is a retired Czechoslovak-American wildwater and slalom canoeist who competed from the early 1960s to the early 1970s with then-husband Josef Šedivec under the last name Šedivcová. She won two silver medals at the 1965 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships in Spittal, earning them in the C2 Mixed and C2 Mixed Team events. She also won a silver medal in the individual C2 Mixed Whitewater Downriver event and a gold medal in the C2 Mixed Team Whitewater Downriver event at the 1965 ICF Wildwater Canoeing World Championships, likewise held in Spittal.

ICF Canoe Marathon World Championships is an International Canoe Federation competition in canoe marathon in which athletes compete over long distances. The race usually starts and ends at the same place, and includes portages. Race categories vary by the number of athletes in the boat, the length of the course, and whether the boat is a canoe or kayak. In a kayak, the paddler is seated in the direction of travel, and uses a double-bladed paddle. In a canoe the paddler kneels on one knee with the other leg forward and foot flat on the floor inside the boat, and paddles a single-bladed paddle on one side only. The World Championships were held every two years from 1988, becoming annual in 1998.
