In the 2009 World Touring Car Championship, Lada Sport entered 3 Lada 110s and Lada Prioras, where the team saw moderate success. In 2010 the team pulled out of WTCC.
Lada Sport is a Russian marketing, advertising, and engineering company based in Togliatti and it is a 100% subsidiary of AvtoVAZ. It is manufacturing the Lada Granta sport and Lada Kalina sport road models and also run the Lada works team in the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC). Their first season was the 2009 season.
The Lada 110 or VAZ-2110 is a compact car built by the Russian automaker AvtoVAZ from 1995 to 2009. It spawned two close derivatives: the Lada 111 estate and the Lada 112 hatchback.
The Lada Priora is a compact car produced by the Russian automaker AvtoVAZ since March 2007. It is largely a restyled and modernised Lada 110 and replaced it in 2009. By May 16, 2012, 590,000 Prioras had been produced. Starting model year 2016, the Priora is not available for export market and has been replaced by Lada Vesta.
Lada returned to the championship in 2012 with James Thompson driving the car in selected events, and in 2013, Mikhail Kozlovskiy joined Thompson in the Granta's first full WTCC season.
James Thompson is a British auto racing driver. He currently competes in the World Touring Car Championship. He has twice been champion of the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC), and was third in the 2007 World Touring Car Championship.
Mikhail Kozlovskiy is a Russian auto racing driver. He won the Russian Touring Car Championship in 2010. He currently races in the World Touring Car Championship with Lada Sport Lukoil.
The car is based on the Lada Granta Cup car which is a single-make trophy, with races held mostly in Russia and the neighbouring countries.

Compared to the cup car the WTCC car is fitted with a 1.6 litre turbocharged engine and the body and suspension is modified to comply with the WTCC rules.
The car was tested in Magny-Cours track in April, 2012, and debuted in the 2012 FIA WTCC Race of Hungary in May, 2012.

It was held on 6 May 2012 at the Hungaroring in Mogyoród near Budapest, Hungary. The first race was won by Yvan Muller for Chevrolet and the second race was won by Norbert Michelisz for Zengő Motorsport.

Russian Bears Motorsport, also known as SMP Racing, is a Russian auto racing team based in Moscow. They ran the works team for Lada in the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC), under the banner of Lada Sport in the 2009 season.

The FIA World Touring Car Cup is an international touring car championship promoted by Eurosport Events and sanctioned by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA). It has had different incarnation of a World Touring Car Cup held between 1993 and 1995. Following the 2017 season, an agreement was reached for the World Touring Car Championship to become WTCR and use the TCR technical regulations. With titles for drivers and teams only, the WTCR series changed to 'World Cup' rather than 'World Championship' status in 2018.
