Lafa-Ruug (Lafarug, Lafaruuq, Laferug) is a Village in south-central Sahil region in Somaliland.
Lafa-Ruug is located in the sublittoral zone below the Golis escarpment, with sandy, Semi-desert-like vegetation. Vachellia tortilis , Dobera glabra , Salvadora persica , Indigofera sparteola, and Commiphora are found. [2]
Livestock ranching is the main business, but because of its location along the main road, some people are engaged in small-scale trades such as restaurants and small stores. [1] : 7
In 1749, Guled Abdi, His coronation took place after the victorious battle of Lafaruug, in which Guled Abdi successfully led the Isaaq and was crowned by the Isaaq clan after defeating the Absame tribes . [3]
In 1939, the British Army established the Somaliland Camel Corps, with headquarters in Lafa-Ruug. [4]
Lafa-Ruug appears in a book published in 1951 in England under the name "Lafarug". [5]
In June 2016, a small altercation developed in Lafa-Ruug, resulting in a shootout that wounded one boy. The youth who fired the gun was arrested. [6]

In 2007 the region of Woqooyi Galbeed was renamed to Maroodi Jeex.
The Eidagalle, is a major Somali clan of the Isaaq clan family. Members of this clan are concentrated in Somaliland and the Somali region. They are the traditional holders of the Isaaq Sultanate since the 18th century. As descendants of Ismail bin Sheikh Isaaq, its members form a part of the Habar Magaadle confederation, and they constitute the largest sub-clan of the Isaaq. They traditionally consist of nomadic pastoralists, merchants and skilled poets.

The Isaaq Sultanate was a Muslim sultanate that ruled parts of the Horn of Africa in the 18th and 19th centuries. The kingdom spanned the territories of the Isaaq clan in modern-day Somaliland. It was governed by the Rer Guled branch of the Garhajis clan and is the pre-colonial predecessor to the modern Republic of Somaliland.
The Somaliland National Army, is the land force and largest branch of the Somaliland Armed Forces is based in the Somaliland capital of Hargeisa. The Somaliland National Army is composed entirely of professionals and volunteers due to the army not being mandatory of conscription. Some Somaliland battalions operate near the Puntland border due to a border dispute.

House of Guled was the ruling house of the Isaaq Sultanate from 1750 to 1884 and is also a subclan in its own right. The family are descendants of the Eidagale sub division of the wider Garhajis and in extension Isaaq clan-family. Although they no longer hold any authority, they are the royal house of Somaliland and are viewed as a favoured symbol in the country. In July 2021, Sultan Mahamed Abdiqadir had a state funeral with nationwide media coverage and was attended by high government officials, including the president of Somaliland; Muse Bihi Abdi and foreign dignitaries.
