The Office of the Secretary to the Government was tasked with administering cabinet concerns, security, establishments, home affairs, and information when the newly constituted Lagos State took off administratively in April 1968. The responsibility for information service was transferred to the military Governor's office as the business of governance got more complex.

In essence, the ministry changed its name from the Secretary of State's Office to the Military Government.

With Mr. Badmus as the first Commissioner, it eventually grew into a full-fledged Ministry of Information and Tourism. In April 1971, the Ministry of Information was founded as a separate entity on Victoria Island to handle government contact with the public and the press.

The Lagos State Ministry of Information and Strategy is the state government ministry, charged with the responsibility to plan, devise and implement the state policies on Information and Strategy. [1] [2]

The Ministry was restructured and reorganized in November 2015, under the administration of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, via Lagos state government circular No.141 dated November 9, 2015, which changed some of the names of existing departments, created a new department, and changed the nomenclature of the Ministry's officers. As a result of this move, all officers in the Ministry who were previously known as "Information Officers" have been renamed "Public Affairs Officers." Impact

In January 2021,The Lagos State Government increased public campaigning and sensitization in response to the emergence of the second wave of COVID-19. This was accomplished by engagement between Ministry of Information and Strategy officials, led by Toyin Adeni-Awosika, Director of Public Enlightenment, and members of the public.

Members of the public were approached at markets, auto mechanic workshops, garages, and parks in Agege, Ojota, Ikeja, Ogba, Alausa Secretariat, and surrounding areas by the sensitization team. They spoke to the crowd and solicited input, as well as distributing vital information, education, and communication items such as fliers and posters. [6]

Kadri Obafemi Hamzat is a Nigerian politician who serves as the Deputy Governor of Lagos State. He was born in Lagos, Nigeria into the family of Late Oba Mufutau Olatunji Hamzat and Late Alhaja Kehinde Hamzat from Iga Egbe, Lagos state. His father, Late Oba Mufutau Olatunji Hamzat served as a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly and as a Commissioner for Transportation in the state before becoming the Vice-chairman SW of then Alliance for Democracy(AD). Olatunji Hamzat became the Lagos West Senatorial District leader of the Action Congress and a crowned king through his maternal royal lineage.

Tola Kasali is a former chairman of Ibeju-Lekki and two-term commissioner in lagos state. He is a member of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) party now called All Progressive Congress (APC) Party. Kasali came on board the Tinubu administration in the second term in 2003 as Commissioner for Rural Development. He was at home in the ministry until midway into the second term that his boss moved him to another familiar terrain, the Ministry of Health. He resigned from the cabinet to contest the governorship ticket of the Action Congress (AC), which the incumbent governor won. From his last assignment as the Director-General of the BRF Campaign Organisation, Kasali took charge of the Ministry of Special Duties as Commissioner.

The Lagos State Ministry of Environment is the state government ministry, charged with the responsibility to plan, devise and implement the state policies on Environmental Management.

The Lagos State Ministry of Justice is the state government ministry, concerned with the administration of justice. The Ministry is under the coordination of the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, who is often assisted by the Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary.

In 1999, the Ministry of Women's Affairs and Poverty Alleviation was established.

Akinwunmi Ambode is a Nigerian politician who served as Governor of Lagos State from 2015 to 2019. He was a civil servant for 27 years and a financial consultant before running for public office.

The Lagos State Civil Service consists of employees in Lagos State government agencies other than the military. Most employees under the service are career civil servants in the Lagos state ministries, progressing based on qualifications and seniority. The civil service is headed by Head of Service, a senior member of the state civil service appointed by the state Governor. The head of service of Lagos state civil service is Hakeem Muri-Okunola.

Steve Oluseyi Ayorinde is the immediate past Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture in Lagos State in Nigeria. Before that, he was the Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, sworn in by His Excellency the Governor of Lagos State Akinwunmi Ambode on 19 October 2015. He was also previously the Managing Director/Editor-In-Chief of the National Mirror newspaper, and before that, the Editor of The Punch newspaper in Nigeria.

Folorunsho Coker is a Nigerian businessman, politician and director general of Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation since March 2017. He was formerly the managing director of the number plate production authority of State of Lagos and commissioner for tourism, Arts & Culture and Special Adviser Central Business District in Lagos State. Coker was the chief executive officer of Brown Restaurant and La Casa Group prior to his appointment as commissioner for tourism, Arts & Culture. He was a jury member for the 2nd edition of the Nigerian Travel Awards (NTA). In 1992, Coker was appointed as personal assistant to Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, He was later appointed as the Managing Director of the Number Plate Production Authority of State of Lagos. In 2014, he was appointed special adviser on the Central Business District of Lagos to Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN), then governor of Lagos State. As the DG of NTDC, Coker launched "Tour Nigeria” a project aimed at promoting domestic tourism in Nigeria. Coker also organized “Food Flavor” a festival that showcased Nigerian food and culture and promote the city as a destination for fun, hospitality and relaxation. He initiated the revocation of the NTDC Act of 1992. The new law has been passed to law by the Senate awaiting concurrence from Nigerian House of Representatives. Coker led administration at NTDC also partnered Google Nigeria for the digitization of tourism sights and street view with the hope of deepening the positive digital story of the Nigerian tourism industry. As Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, in Lagos state, he organized “One Lagos Fiesta” a 5day event held in five different locations in Lagos as a mark of promoting Nigeria culture through music and other forms of entertainment. In 2018, with the partnership of Kano State Government, he initiated the proposed implementation of Kano/Durbar repackaging plan. He also started the repackaging of the Iri Ji Yam Festival, Anambra, Ogidi Ijumu Festival, Kogi and Osun-Osogbo Festival, Osun. He started his education at Corona College Obalende before travelling to UK in 1992 where he attended St. Bees School, Cumbria. He holds a bachelor's degree in combined studies, Economic and Geography from Manchester University. He obtained postgraduates degrees in diplomacy. International trade and finance the University of Westminster where he finished with distinction. In his time as the Director-General of NTDC, P.M. News reported, "The Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC) on Wednesday bagged Best Tourism Marketing Agency of the year 2019 at the Gala/Award Night of Tourism Transportation Summit and Expo."

Maryam Elisha is a Nigerian model, beauty queen, and fashion designer. She founded the Rikaoto by ME fashion brand in 2009, two years after being crowned Miss Valentine. Elisha was named one of the 20 most influential pageant personalities in Nigeria.

Oluranti Adebule is a Nigerian politician, she served as the 15th Deputy Governor of Lagos state and the sixth woman to occupy the office from 2015 to 2019.

Lateef Oludare Raji was a former adviser on information and strategy to former Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola. He was also a commissioner to former Lagos state Governor Bola Tinubu. He was a serving member of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission committee (LASIEC) before his death.

Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu is a Nigerian politician and the current Governor of Lagos State. He became governor under the platform of the All Progressives Congress after contesting and unexpectedly winning the gubernatorial primaries under the All Progressives Congress against incumbent Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State in October 2019. He is a graduate of the University of Lagos, as well as the London Business School, Lagos Business School and the John F. Kennedy School of Government. Before his gubernatorial ambition, he was the managing director and CEO of Lagos State Property Development Corporation (LSPDC).

The Lagos Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources was created out of the old Ministry of Works and Transport in 1979 by Alhaji Lateef Jakande, the first elected Governor of Lagos State. The Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning was eventually amalgamated with the Ministry of Physical Planning to form the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning. In 2003, the administration of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the past Governor of Lagos State, removed the Environment Office from Physical Planning and raised the current Environment Office to a full-fledged Ministry.

Captain Mike Akhigbe's Military Administration established tourism as a department under the Ministry of Home Affairs in Lagos State in 1995.

The Lagos State Ministry of Home Affairs was founded in 1979, the ministry of home affairs has gone through several stages of development and reform, both in terms of nomenclature and responsibilities. The Ministry of Home Affairs, Lottery, and Pools Betting was established under Governor Lateef Jakande's administration.
