Lagos State is a state in southwestern Nigeria. Out of the 36 states, it is the second most populous state and the smallest in area. Bounded to the south by the Bight of Benin and to the west by the international border with Benin for ten km, Lagos State borders Ogun State to the north for about 283 km, making it the only Nigerian state to border only one other state. Named for the city of Lagos—the most populous city in Africa—the state was formed from the Western Region and the former Federal Capital Territory on 27 May 1967.
The University of Lagos, popularly known as UNILAG, is a public research university located in Lagos, Nigeria and was founded in 1962. UNILAG is one of the first generation universities in Nigeria and is ranked among the top universities in the country in major education publications. The university presently has three campuses in the mainland of Lagos. Whereas two of its campuses are located at Yaba, it's college of medicine is located at Idi-Araba, Surulere. Its main campus is largely surrounded by the Lagos lagoon and has 802 acres of land. The University of Lagos currently admits over 9,000 undergraduate students annually and enrolls over 57,000 students.
Lagos Rail Mass Transit is a rapid transit system in Lagos State. The rail system is managed by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA). The railway equipment including electric power, signals, rolling stock, and fare collection equipment will be provided by the private sector under a concession contract. LAMATA is responsible for policy direction, regulation, and infrastructure for the network. The first section of the network, Phase I of the Blue Line, was originally planned to be completed in 2011, though the construction has suffered many delays caused by shortage of funds and change of government. The Blue Line opened on September 4, 2023 and the Red Line opened on February 29, 2024.

The Fourth Mainland Bridge is a 38 km long bridge project by the Lagos State Government, Nigeria, connecting Lagos Island by way of Langbasa(Lekki) and Baiyeku(Ikorodu) across the Lagos Lagoon to Itamaga, in Ikorodu. The bridge is a 2 × 4 lane carriageway cross-sectional road with permission for BRT Lane and future road contraction. It is expected to become the second longest Bridge in Africa, featuring 3 toll plazas, 9 interchanges, 4.5 km Lagoon Bridge and an eco-friendly environment amongst other added features. The idea was conceptualized by the government of Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former governor of Lagos State. Construction was planned to commence in 2017, 50 years after the state's establishment and 26 years after the completion of the Third Mainland Bridge by the ex-military President Ibrahim Babangida and was expected to be completed by 2019, but construction has not been started as of November 2023. The project was to cost the state an estimated sum of ₦844 billion in the 2017 budget. In September 2020, the Lagos State Government proposed another sum of $2.2 billion for the construction. 800 houses are expected to be demolished as against the 4,000 earlier marked for demolition in the previous design that was realigned.
Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu is a Nigerian politician who has served as the governor of Lagos State since 2019.
The 2019 Lagos gubernatorial election was conducted on 9 March to choose the Governor of Lagos State. The election was held concurrently with various state level elections. Incumbent APC Governor Akinwunmi Ambode lost to the APC flag bearer Babajide Sanwo-Olu at a direct primary election in October 2018 and hence ineligible to run for second term under APC. Babajide Sanwo-Olu won in a landslide against Jimi Agbaje of the PDP who had previously run unsuccessfully for Lagos state governor twice. From 1999, Lagos state has been governed by AD, AC, then ACN, three parties which subsequently formed part of the coalition that birthed the APC in 2013.

Akin Emmanuel Abayomi is a Nigerian professor who specializes in internal medicine, haematology, environmental health, Biosecurity and biobanking. Abayomi currently serves as Lagos State commissioner for health. He was with the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research in Lagos when he was appointed Commissioner by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in 2019. Following the reported index case of COVID-19 in Lagos in March 2020, Abayomi was appointed to lead the response against the virus in the Africa's largest commercial city. On 24 August 2020, he tested positive for COVID-19 and recovered on 31 August 2020.

He was born to late Chief Taoreed Lawal Akapo, the Ojora of Lagos (1977-1993) and Olori Muinat Olabisi Abeni Ajasa. He is from the Ojora, Aromire, Shokun and Abisogun branch of Oniru royal families of Lagos State. He became the 15th Oniru of Iruland on 7 June 2020 after the death of Oba Idowu Oniru in September 2019. He was presented with the staff of Office by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on 7 June. 2020. Prior to his enthronement, he was the Commissioner for Agriculture in Lagos State.
The 2023 Lagos State gubernatorial election took place on 18 March 2023, to elect the Governor of Lagos State, concurrent with elections to the Lagos State House of Assembly as well as twenty-seven other gubernatorial elections and elections to all other state houses of assembly. The election—which was postponed from its original 11 March date—was held three weeks after the presidential election and National Assembly elections. Incumbent APC Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu was eligible to run for re-election and was renominated by his party.

The Lagos state Task force against Human Trafficking is a Nigerian task force established by the Lagos state Government to tackle human trafficking and irregular migration. The Executive Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu inaugurated the state task force on human trafficking at the Government house on the 8th September 2020, with the overall objective of coordinating a multi-sectoral response towards the prevention of human trafficking, offering access to justice for victims of trafficking, prosecution of traffickers and enhancing the process of successful restoration of survivors to the state of physical, psycho-social, vocational and economic well-being. This task force is currently being replicated in other south western states of Nigeria.
Vanguard Personality of the Year Awards is an annual award organized by Vanguard (Newspapers) to honour distinguished Nigerians who have excelled in their chosen careers. The event premiered between 2007 and 2008 as the Bankers' award. It was on hold for four years until 2012, when it was re-introduced and rebranded as Vanguard Personality of the Year Awards. In 2022, the event celebrated its 10th edition in Lagos, Nigeria. Past recipients of the award include; Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Adegboyega Oyetola, Godwin Obaseki, Abdullahi Sule, Rotimi Akeredolu, and Afe Babalola.
