Lake Ripley is a lake in Meeker County, in the U.S. state of Minnesota. [1]

Lake Ripley was named for Frederick N. Ripley, who died there of exposure during the winter of 1855. [2]

Camp Ripley is a 53,000-acre (210 km2) military and civilian training facility operated by the Minnesota National Guard near the city of Little Falls in the central part of the state. The location of the camp was selected in 1929 by Ellard A. Walsh, Adjutant General of the State of Minnesota. The site's winter warfare training course is the primary facility used by the National Guard for winter combat exercises. Camp Ripley also hosts the training academy for the Minnesota State Patrol and is a popular site for athletes training to compete in winter biathlons. Most Minnesota Guard soldiers train at Camp Ripley during two-week annual training periods.

Minnesota State Highway 371 highway in Minnesota

Minnesota State Highway 371 (MN 371) is a 107.411-mile-long (172.861 km) highway in central and north-central Minnesota. The route connects Minnesota's northern lakes region with the central part of the state. It runs south–north from U.S. Highway 10 (US 10) in Little Falls to US 2 in Cass Lake. MN 371 has become a heavily traveled arterial route that was once a two-lane roadway over almost all of its length, but has been widened to four lanes across most of its southern half. Much of the traffic utilizing the route is Twin Cities-based traffic heading to their cabins on one of the many northern lakes.

The Nokasippi River is a 46.5-mile-long (74.8 km) tributary of the Mississippi River in central Minnesota in the United States. In the Ojibwe language, the river is called Nooke-ziibi. The term "tender" generally refers to the Bear Totem, but in this case refers to Chief Nokay, who was named after the Bear Totem and lived along the shores of Nokay Lake.

Lake Windigo is a small lake on Star Island in northern Minnesota, United States. The lake covers a total of 199 acres (80 hectare) and reaches a maximum depth of 15 feet (4.6 m). The littoral zone is 129 acres (52 hectare). Due to its shallow depth and subsequent abundant plant and algae growth, water clarity extends 6 feet (1.8 m). The lake hosts small populations of northern pike and walleye and large communities of panfish. Access to Lake Windigo is by a short portage from Cass Lake on the north side of the island. The lake is best navigated by canoe, rowboat, or other small watercraft.

Fort Ripley (Minnesota fort) 19th-century U.S. army fort

Fort Ripley was a United States Army outpost on the upper Mississippi River in north-central Minnesota from 1848 to 1877. It was situated near government agencies for the Ho-Chunk and Ojibwe. By its very presence, however, the fort spurred immigration into the area by whites. The post, initially named Fort Marcy, was briefly renamed Fort Gaines and in 1850 was renamed again after Brigadier General Eleazer Wheelock Ripley, a distinguished soldier from the War of 1812. It was the second major military fort established in what would become Minnesota, after Fort Snelling in 1819.
