The Lake Superior State Lakers cross country team is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II college running program that represents Lake Superior State University. The Lakers are a member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).
Steve Eles has been the head coach since the mid-2000s. Prior to his coaching career at LSSU, he was an assistant coach at Tiffin University and a runner at LSSU.
Taking over in 2017, Rob Gallinger is the current head coach for LSSU Cross Country.
LSSU reached its successful peak in the late 90s and early 2000s. Recently, the Lakers have finished 10th in the GLIAC respectively for the past two years.
As of the 2020 season, the Lakers have had continuous improvement since the installation of Rob Gallinger as head coach, as David Mitter qualified for NCAA DII Nationals in 2018, and just missed out in 2019.
The 2020 season was cancelled because of COVID-19.
In the winter of 2021/2022, Anthony Filipek was hired as the head coach of Lake Superior State Cross Country/Track and Field. As of Fall 2023, he is still the head coach of the lakers.

Lake Superior State University is a public college in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. It enrolls approximately 2,000 students. Due to its proximity to the Canadian border, LSSU has many Canadian students and offers joint programs with Sault College and Algoma University in the twin city of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada across the St. Marys River. In a sign of this close relationship with its international neighbor, LSSU flies both the Canadian and United States flags on its campus.
Ronald Herbert Mason was a Canadian ice hockey player, head coach, and university executive. A head coach of various American universities, most notably Michigan State University (MSU), he was the most successful coach in NCAA ice hockey history between 1993 and 2012 with 924 wins, until Jerry York became the new winningest coach with his 925th career win on December 29, 2012. Mason was athletic director at MSU from 2002 to 2008. He then served as senior advisor for the USHL Muskegon Lumberjacks. On December 2, 2013, Mason was inducted into the United States Hockey Hall of Fame.
Rick Comley is a former collegiate ice hockey player and former head coach at Michigan State University. He finished his 38-year coaching career with a 783–615–110 (.556) record. In 2007, he became the third coach in NCAA history to win a national championship at two different schools. Comley is currently serving in his second stint as the athletic director at Northern Michigan University, hired in 2022.
The Grand Valley State Lakers football team represents Grand Valley State University (GVSU) in NCAA Division II football. The team currently competes in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and was once affiliated with the now defunct Midwest Intercollegiate Football Conference. The Lakers football team has appeared in six NCAA Division II national title games, winning four championships, since 2001. The team has made the playoffs in 20 seasons. They have also won or shared 17 conference titles.
The Oakland University Golden Grizzlies are the athletic teams that represent Oakland University (OU) in the Horizon League and Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). The school fields 16 teams: baseball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's golf, men's and women's soccer, softball, men's and women's swimming and diving, women's tennis, men's and women's track, and women's volleyball.
The Malone Pioneers are athletic teams of Malone University in Canton, Ohio, United States. The Pioneers compete in Division II of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) as members of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC). Malone joined the G-MAC after four seasons in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) from 2012–13 to 2015–16. Malone joined the GLIAC and Division II in the 2011–12 season and completed the NCAA Division II membership process in July 2013 after having previously competed in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA); mostly known for its tenure with the now-defunct American Mideast Conference from 1965–66 to 1988–89, and from 1993–94 to 2010–11. In 2016, the Pioneers will begin play in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference, also known as the G-MAC.

The Lake Erie Storm are the athletic teams that represent Lake Erie College, located in Painesville, Ohio, in intercollegiate sports as a member of the Division II level of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), primarily competing in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) since the 2017–18 academic year. The Storm previously competed as a member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) from 2010–11 to 2016–17; as well as an NCAA D-II Independent from 2008–09 to 2009–10. Jordan Bischel is an American baseball coach and former pitcher and first baseman, who is the current head baseball coach of the Cincinnati Bearcats. He played college baseball at St. Norbert College from 2000 to 2003. He previously served as the head coach of the Midland Warriors (2013–2014), the Northwood Timberwolves (2015–2018), and the Central Michigan Chippewas (2018-2023).
The 2020–21 Michigan Tech Huskies men's basketball team will represent Michigan Tech in the 2020–21 NCAA Division II men's basketball season. The Huskies will be led by 27th-year head coach Kevin Luke and will play their home games at Sherman Stadium in Houghton, Michigan as members of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

The 2021 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball tournament was a postseason men's basketball tournament for the GLIAC of the 2020–21 NCAA Division II men's basketball season which took place March 2–5, 2021. The Semi-Finals and Finals were played in John Friend Court in Hammond, Indiana, with the first two rounds being held at the home stadium of the team that had the better record of their respective matchup. For example, the matchup between #3 Michigan Tech and #6 Purdue Northwest would be hosted by Michigan Tech.
