A high-rise building is a tall building, as opposed to a low-rise building and is defined by its height differently in various jurisdictions. It is used as a residential, office building, or other functions including hotel, retail, or with multiple purposes combined. Residential high-rise buildings are also known as tower blocks and may be referred to as "MDUs", standing for "multi-dwelling unit". A very tall high-rise building is referred to as a skyscraper.
An apartment, flat or unit is a self-contained housing unit that occupies only part of a building, generally on a single storey. There are many names for these overall buildings, see below. The housing tenure of apartments also varies considerably, from large-scale public housing, to owner occupancy within what is legally a condominium, to tenants renting from a private landlord.
Cleveland State University (CSU) is a public research university in downtown Cleveland, Ohio, United States. It was established in 1964, and opened for classes in 1965 after acquiring the entirety of Fenn College, a private school that had been in operation since 1923. CSU absorbed the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law in 1969. Today it is part of the University System of Ohio, has more than 120,000 alumni, and offers over 200 academic programs.
Sursum Corda is a small neighborhood located in Washington, D.C., bounded by North Capitol Street on the east, K Street NW to the south, New Jersey Avenue NW to the west, and New York Avenue NW to the north. The neighborhood draws its name for the Sursum Corda Co-operative Apartments, a 199-unit low-income housing complex constructed in 1968. The area became a notorious open air drug market plagued by violence and poverty in the 1980s. After a notorious 2004 murder in the neighborhood, demolition and complete renovation of the low-income housing in Sursum Corda was announced in 2007. Little of the redevelopment happened, although extensive demolition occurred.
Forest City Realty Trust, Inc. was a real estate investment trust that invested in office buildings, shopping centers and apartments in Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and the greater metropolitan areas of New York City, San Francisco and Washington, D.C. The company was organized in Maryland with its headquarters in Cleveland, Ohio. As of December 31, 2017, the company owned 29 office buildings, 29 shopping centers, and 78 apartment complexes. On December 7, 2018, the company was acquired by Brookfield Asset Management.
Multifamily residential is a classification of housing where multiple separate housing units for residential inhabitants are contained within one building or several buildings within one complex. Units can be next to each other, or stacked on top of each other. A common form is an apartment building. Sometimes units in a multifamily residential building are condominiums, where typically the units are owned individually rather than leased from a single apartment building owner. Many intentional communities incorporate multifamily residences, such as in cohousing projects.
The Gold Coast is a lakefront neighborhood of the city of Lakewood, Ohio, United States. Visible from downtown Cleveland, the Gold Coast consists of many highrise condo and apartment towers directly along the coasts of Lake Erie. The Gold Coast runs specifically along Edgewater Drive and Lake Avenue. It is bordered on the west by Gold Coast Lane and on the east along W. 117th St. Some consider Clifton Boulevard also to be a part of the Gold Coast. The majority of the neighborhood revolves around dense low-rise residential complexes on the southern side with the newer and taller buildings on the northern side.
Reserve Square is a two-building skyscraper mixed use apartment complex in downtown Cleveland, Ohio, United States. Both buildings have 23 floors and are 266 feet high. The Square is directly west of the senior residential Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority's Bohn Towers.
nuCLEus is a proposed 54-story, 650-foot (200 m) mixed-used development complex planned for the Gateway District of downtown Cleveland, Ohio, United States. The project won unanimous approval from the Cleveland Planning Commission in November 2014. Robert L. Stark of Cleveland-based Stark Enterprises is the lead developer on the project.
East 4th Street is a major downtown district in Cleveland, Ohio, known for its food, entertainment, and lack of car traffic. The street runs south from Euclid Avenue to Prospect Avenue. Once a very run down street, the area has been given new life by a multitude of restaurateurs, investors, small business owners and the city of Cleveland itself. The area is the location of many established Cleveland restaurants, bars, nightclubs, and apartments.
The Pinnacle is a postmodern 2006 completed 181 foot 14 story condominium high-rise in downtown Cleveland's historic Warehouse District. The Pinnacle faces the off ramp of the Cleveland Memorial Shoreway or Ohio State Route (SR) 2. The building extends back for nearly a city block. It sits on top of a parking structure that was built before the tower. It is the second tallest building in the Warehouse District after the Crittenden Apartments.
Kimpton Schofield Hotel is an historic building located in downtown Cleveland, Ohio. The 172-foot, 14-story high-rise is located at the corner of East Ninth Street and Euclid Avenue in the city's Nine-Twelve District, alongside other historic buildings such as Rose Building, the City Club Building, the Union Commerce Building, the Cleveland Trust Company Building, The 9 Cleveland and The Cleveland Athletic Club Building.
Cressingham Gardens is a council garden estate in Lambeth. It is located on the southern edge of Brockwell Park. It comprises 306 dwellings, a mixture of four, three and two-bedroom houses, and one-bedroom apartments. It was designed at the end of the 1960s by the Lambeth Borough Council Architect Edward Hollamby, and built at the start of the 1970s. In 2012 Lambeth Council proposed demolishing the estate, to replace the terraced houses by apartment blocks. Most of the apartments would then be for sale to the private sector. The residents, those in Lambeth who wish to prevent the gentrification of the borough, and those who want to conserve what they believe to be important architectural heritage, are campaigning to prevent its demolition.
The Beacon is a skyscraper in downtown Cleveland that began construction at 515 Euclid Avenue in late 2017. The tower will be 355 feet (108 m) tall, with approval from the city council to exceed the city's 250 feet (76 m) limit. The building will be located on the GCRTA Euclid Corridor Rapid Bus Transit line that leads from Public Square to the University Circle district on the south east side of the city
