Lanka Bandaranayake is a Sri Lankan filmmaker, producer, screenwriter, actor, and theatre artist who mainly works in Sri Lankan cinema. She is known for the short film Tradition (2016).

Early life

Lanka was born in Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka. In 2016, she finished her Bachelor of Arts degree in the University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka.. [1] She received a Chevening Scholarship in 2021 for her Master's Degree in Directing Film and Television, which she completed with Distinction at Bournemouth University in the United Kingdom. [2]

Career

Lanka started her career as a theatre artist in 1998 before filmmaking in 2016. She has been working as an actress and costume designer in theatre, teledramas, and films. [3]

In 2008, she was cast in Security, a short theatre play that was directed by Hewage Bandula. It was staged at the Colombo Theatre Fest for Young Audiences, 2008. [4]

Her first short film, Tradition, was selected for more than 40 international film festivals. [5] [6] [7] [8] [9] [10] [11] [12]

In 2019, she directed her second short film, Inheritance (2020), with the partnership of the British Council of Sri Lanka. [13]

In 2020, Lanka directed "The Delivery" chapter on the anthology film Goodnight Colombo. [14]

Her third short film, Mahasona (2021), was selected for various film festivals. [15] [16] [17]

In 2021, her debut feature film, The Hail, was selected by the Film Independent’s Fiscal Sponsorship program at Global Media Makers in Los Angeles. [18] [19] During the program, she developed her debut feature film project, The Hail (Working Title). [2]

Upatissa Atapattu Bandaranayake Wasala Mudiyanse Ralahamilage Shirani Anshumala Bandaranayake, known as Shirani Bandaranayake, served as the 43rd Chief Justice of Sri Lanka. Although a qualified lawyer, she has never practiced law. After university Bandaranayake entered academia, holding a number of senior positions at the University of Colombo, including associate professor of law and the dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Colombo. She was first appointed to the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka in 1996, becoming Sri Lanka's first female Supreme Court Judge. Bandaranayake was appointed chief justice in May 2011 following the mandatory retirement of Asoka de Silva. Bandaranayake was controversially impeached by Parliament and then removed from office by President Mahinda Rajapaksa in January 2013. and on 28 January 2015 the government of Sri Lanka, had removed all obstacles for Bandaranayake to hold her position as the 43rd Chief Justice by the President Maithripala Sirisena, on the ground that her 2013 impeachment was unlawful and as such the appointment of Mohan Peiris, her successor, was void Ab initio. This paved the way for Bandaranayake to resume duties on 28 January 2015. She retired from the position on 29 January 2015, one day after her reappointment, claiming support for a free and fair Judiciary in Sri Lanka.

The film starred by Mahendra Perera and Semini Iddamalgoda in lead roles along with Rukmal Nirosh, Sarath Kothalawala. 28 revolves how three men transport the body of a woman, who was raped and murdered, in an old van. Deepani Silva also known as Deepani de Silva is a Sri Lankan popular veteran film and teledrama actress. She made it to the films after appearing in several street dramas and plays. On 28 May 2018, Deepani Silva was arrested and was released on bail for involving in an accident in Bandaragama.

Priyankara Rathnayake is an actor in Sri Lankan cinema, stage drama and television. Highly versatile actor mostly engaged in theater and cinema, Rathnayake is a lecturer and Head of Drama & Theatre and image Arts Unit, Department of Fine Arts in University of Kelaniya by profession.

Deshamanya Vajira Chitrasena is a veteran Sri Lankan traditional dancer, choreographer and teacher. Vajira is regarded as Sri Lanka's first prima ballerina. She is the first Sri Lankan woman to practice the traditional Kandyan dance which was traditionally performed only by men. Vajira is credited for creating brand for female style of Kandyan dancing and set the tone for women to become ritual dancers. She was married to Chitrasena who was a well known legendary dancer and dance guru. On 26 January 2020, she along with late professor Indra Dassanayake was conferred with the Padma Shri award which is one of the highest Indian civilian awards coinciding with the 71st Republic Day of India.

Wanniarachchige Senali Koshila Fonseka (Sinhala: වන්නිආරච්චිගේ සෙනාලි කෝෂිලා ෆොන්සේකා, popularly known as Senali Fonseka, is an actress in Sri Lankan cinema, theatre and television. Her first appeared film was Siri Parakum as Sirimal Ethana. Senali became more popular with her role as Paatali "Sudu Chooti" in Sri Lankan television series Nadagamkarayo.

Kala Suri Barbara Sansoni was a Sri Lankan designer, artist, colourist, entrepreneur, and writer. She was known for her works in architecture, textile designs, and handwoven panels. She founded the Barefoot textile company, a company that is highly acclaimed for its handloom fabric. She also served as the chairperson and chief designer of Barefoot Pvt. Ltd for several years.

Sumana Gomes, is a Sri Lankan cinema actress. Often regarded as the "sexiest actress in Sri Lankan film history", Gomes is credited as the premiere sex symbol and pioneer of blue film subculture in Sri Lankan cinema. She began her acting career at a young age, starring in the 1978 blockbuster Kundala Keshi directed by Wimalanath Dissanayaka. During a career that spanned 30 years, Gomes starred in close to 35 movies which also included biographical dramas, mainstream comedies and Erotic thrillers.
