The Lansdowne Championships [1] was a men's and women's international grass court tennis tournament founded in 1889 as the Lansdowne Lawn Tennis Tournament. [2] The tournament was played at the Lansdowne Lawn Tennis Club, Dublin, Ireland. It was played annually until 1969 when it was discontinued as part of the ILTF Circuit.

History

The Lansdowne Championships were first held in June 1889 the men's singles event was also valid as the County Dublin Championships and was won by Joshua Pim who beat Grainger Chaytor in the final. [3] [1] The tournament was played at the Lansdowne Lawn Tennis Club, [4] Dublin, Ireland. [1] It was played annually until 1969 when it was discontinued as part of the ILTF Circuit. [1] The tournament was still being held as recently as 2019 as the Lansdowne Senior Club Championships. [5]

The first championships was played at the Howth Lawn Tennis Club, Howth, Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland. The tournament ran as a senior international tour event until 1979. The championships are still being played today.

The Dinard International also known as the Dinard Championships or Championnats de Dinard and also known as the Dinard Cup or Coupe de Dinard was a combined men's and women's open clay court tennis tournament established in 1889 and was first played at the Tennis Club de Dinard, Dinard, France. The tournament became part of ILTC Circuit and was staged until 1968.

The County Dublin Championships also known as the County Dublin Open Tennis Championships is a combined men's and women's grass court tennis tournament founded in 1882 as the County Dublin Tournament in Lucan, Dublin for one edition only. In 1887 the tournament was revived at Lansdowne Lawn Tennis Club until 1894 only. In 1908 it was revived for the second time at the Carrickmines Croquet and Lawn Tennis Club, Carrickmines, Republic of Ireland where it is still played today.

The Lanarkshire Open Tennis Championships also known simply as the Lanarkshire Championships was a men's and women's grass court tennis tournament founded in 1886 as the Championship of Lanarkshire It was first played at Hamilton Lawn Tennis Club, Hamilton, Lanarkshire, Scotland. The championships were part of the ILTF Circuit through till 1967. After which it became part of the Scottish LTA Circuit until 1999 when it was discontinued.

The Wiltshire County Open Championships or simply Wiltshire Championships was a men's and women's grass court tennis tournament first established in 1920. It was held at Trowbridge Westbourne Tennis Club, Trowbridge, Wiltshire, England. The tournament was staged annually until 1981.

The County Wexford Open Championships was a grass then later hard court open tennis tournament first organised by the Wexford Lawn Tennis Club, Wexford, County Wexford, Ireland. The tournament was first established in 1885 as the County Wexford Tournament. The tournament was part of ILTF Circuit until 1967.

The Fitzwilliam Purse, was a tennis competition held at the Irish Championships. The tournament consisted of players lost in the first round of the singles event. The first edition, for male players only, was held in 1884. The event was discontinued in 1902.

The Colchester Championship was a men's and women's grass court tennis tournament founded in 1889. The tournament was organised by the Colchester Lawn Tennis Club, Colchester, Essex, England. It was played annually until 1923 when it was discontinued as part of the ILTF Circuit.

The County Cavan Championships was a men's and women's grass court tennis tournament founded in 1885 as the County Cavan Lawn Tennis Tournament. The tournament was organised by the County Cavan Lawn Tennis Club, and played at Cavan, Ireland. It was played annually until 1955.

The Dundrum Open also known as the Dundrum Open Lawn Tennis Tournament was a combined men's and women's grass court tennis tournament founded in 1881 as the Dundrum Tournament. The tournament was organised by the Dundrum Lawn Tennis Club and played at Dundrum, Dublin, Ireland] annually until 1887 when it was discontinued.

The Western Pennsylvania Championships formally known as the Western Pennsylvania Amateur Tennis Championships was a men's and women's grass court tennis tournament founded in 1889. The tournament ran annually through till 1981 as part of the ILTF Independent Tour until it was discontinued.

The South Island Open Championships was a regional men's and women's grass court then later hard court tennis tournament founded in 1934 as the South Island Championships. The tournament was first played at the Nelson Lawn Tennis Club (f.1925), Nelson, Nelson Province, North Island, New Zealand. The tournament was played at other locations until 1978 when it was discontinued as part of the ILTF Independent Tour.
