The Crescent is a daily long-distance passenger train operated by Amtrak in the eastern United States. It operates 1,377 miles (2,216 km) daily between Pennsylvania Station in New York City and Union Passenger Terminal in New Orleans as train numbers 19 and 20. Major service stops outside the Northeast Corridor include Birmingham, Alabama; Atlanta, Georgia and Charlotte, North Carolina.

The Jokela rail accident occurred on 21 April 1996, at 07:08 local time in Tuusula, Finland, approximately 50 kilometres (30 mi) north of Helsinki. Four people were killed and 75 injured when express train P82 from Oulu, bound for Helsinki, derailed in heavy fog. The overnight sleeper train was carrying 139 passengers and five crew members. The engine overturned and eight of the twelve carriages derailed. The official investigation into the accident revealed that the accident was due to overspeeding through a slow-speed turnout.
The Sm3 Pendolino is a class of high-speed body-tilting trains operated by VR Group. It is a member of the Pendolino train family; its design is based on the ETR 460. The first two trainsets were assembled in Finland by Rautaruukki-Transtech in the mid-1990s. The rest of the series of eighteen EMUs were built by FIAT Ferroviaria between 2000 and 2006. The trains serve most of Finland's major cities such as Helsinki, Turku, Oulu and Joensuu with a maximum speed of 220 km/h (140 mph), although this speed is only attained between Kerava and Lahti. The train has a power output of 4,000 kW (5,400 hp) and weighs 328 tonnes.

North Temple Bridge/Guadalupe station is a light rail and commuter rail station in Salt Lake City, Utah. It is operated by the Utah Transit Authority, and serves the TRAX light rail system's Green Line as well as FrontRunner commuter rail. The Green Line provides service from the Salt Lake City International Airport to West Valley City and connects with the rest of the TRAX system and UTA's S Line streetcar. Although the official name of the station is North Temple Bridge/Guadalupe, it often referenced by UTA as simply North Temple.
