Fielding Lewis Wright was an American politician who served as the 19th lieutenant governor and 49th and 50th governor of Mississippi. During the 1948 presidential election he served as the vice presidential nominee of the States' Rights Democratic Party (Dixiecrats) alongside presidential nominee Strom Thurmond. During his political career he fought to maintain racial segregation,fought with President Harry S. Truman over civil rights legislation,and held other racist views.

The Confederate Monument in Murray is a statue located in the northeast corner of the Calloway County Courthouse in Murray,Kentucky. It commemorates the 800 citizens of the county who served in the Confederate Army during the American Civil War,and is one of several Confederate monuments in Kentucky featuring Robert E. Lee. There is another one in Bardstown KY. Despite recent controversy,the Calloway County Fiscal Court voted to keep the statue on its grounds in July 2020.

Following the 2022 election,Republicans and Democrats held 80 and 20 seats,respectively. The deadline for candidates to file was January 5,2024.
