Accra is the capital of Ghana covering an area of 225.67 km2 (87.13 sq mi) with an estimated urban population of 4.2 million as of 2020. It is organized into 12 local government districts – 11 municipal districts and the Accra Metropolitan District, which is the only district within the capital to be granted city status. "Accra" usually refers to the Accra Metropolitan Area, which serves as the capital of Ghana, while the district which is within the jurisdiction of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly is distinguished from the rest of the capital as the "City of Accra". In common usage, however, the terms "Accra" and "City of Accra" are used interchangeably.

The University of Ghana is the oldest and largest of the thirteen Ghanaian national public universities. Nathan Anang Quao, was a Ghanaian diplomat, educationist and public servant who became a senior presidential advisor on governance to the administrations of multiple Heads of State of Ghana. Quao was the founding principal of the Keta Secondary School in Keta, Ghana, started in 1953. He was described by independent observers as part of "diminishing survivors of an era, which many consider to have been high-noon of quality and dedication in the civil service."
Nicholas Timothy Clerk was a Ghanaian academic, administrator and Presbyterian minister who served as the Rector of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) from 1977 to 1982. He was also the Vice-Chairman of the Public Services Commission of Ghana. Clerk chaired the Public Services Commission of Uganda from 1989 to 1990.

Atomic Junction Gas Explosion occurred on 7 October 2017, when a liquefied natural gas station located around Atomic Junction in Accra, Ghana, exploded. News gathered from the explosion reports that the Gas station exploded first before affecting a Total Filling Station nearby which also caught fire. There were a number of fatalities, with at least seven deaths and 192 injuries being reported. Students from Presbyterian Boys' Senior High School, Legon and University of Ghana who are close to the explosion sites quickly fled from their hostels in fear, creating a stampede which injured a lot of students Residents around Madina and Haatso in Accra who were also close to the explosion zone were also being evacuated. As of 7 October 2017, personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Police Service and National Disaster Management Organisation were onsite trying to put the fire under control. As of 7 October 2017, the source of the explosion was not known. The total cost of property destroyed is estimated to be GHS 1,503,010.
Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie was a Ghanaian lawyer and politician. He held several political positions including serving as general secretary of the New Patriotic Party. He was serving as the Chief Executive Officer of Forestry Commission of Ghana before his demise.

Santeo is a small town located in the Kpone Katamanso District in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. The town shares boundary with Ashaiman and Tema. In 2018, a 4-unit classroom at a cost of Gh₡425,000 was donated by a group of Indians to promote education in Santeo.
