Laura Dunn (born 10 November 1987 in Belmont, New South Wales) is an Australian former lightweight rower. She is a three-time national champion and won a silver medal at the 2014 World Rowing Championships.
Raised in Belmont in the Hunter Region of New South Wales, Dunn attended Warners Bay High School and the Hunter School of Performing Arts before studying at the University of Technology Sydney and taking up rowing at the UTS Haberfield Rowing Club. [1]
Dunn made her first state representative appearance for New South Wales, at stroke in the 2010 women's lightweight quad scull which contested the Victoria Cup at the Interstate Regatta within the Australian Rowing Championships. [2] She made a total of six Victoria Cup appearances for New South Wales between 2010 and 2016. She stroked those quads in 2010, 2013 and 2016. [3]
In 2013 in UTS Haberfield colours at the Australian Rowing Championships she placed second in her lightweight double sculls title attempt behind a Chinese national crew and she won the lightweight quad sculls national title. [4] In 2014 in UTS Haberfield colours she contested the open lightweight single sculls national title at the Australian Rowing Championships and placed eighth in the A final. [5] At those same 2014 championships she placed second in the lightweight double sculls title behind a Czech national crew and she won the lightweight quad sculls national title. In 2015 with Sarah Pound and racing for UTS Haberfield Rowing Club she won the national title in a lightweight coxless pair at the Australian Rowing Championships. [6] At those same championships she also won the lightweight quad scull national title.
Dunn made her Australian representative debut in the lightweight quad scull contesting the 2014 World Rowing Championships in Amsterdam. [7] She rowed in that crew stroked by the veteran lightweight Hannah Every-Hall to a silver medal with Maia Simmonds and Sarah Pound. [7]
In 2015 Simmonds took over the stroke seat in the lightweight quad scull from Every-Hall, Dunn and Pound held their seats and Georgia Miansarow joined the crew. They rowed to a fourth placing at the 2015 World Rowing Championships in Aiguebelette. It was Dunn's last Australian representative appearance. [7]
Marguerite Houston is an Australian former lightweight rower. She is an Australian national champion, an Olympian and two-time World Champion. She contested state representative events at nine successive Australian Rowing Championships.
Sally Causby is an Australian former rower – a national champion and two time World Champion.
Hannah Every-Hall is an Australian former rower, a national champion, World Champion and Olympian. She is married to Michael Hall and they have a son named Harrison Hall
Timothy George McLaren is an Australian former Olympian rower and high-performance international rowing coach. He was a four-time Australian national champion, a national representative and won a silver medal in the men's quad scull at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.
Rebecca Susan Joyce is an Australian former rower, a sculler in the lightweight division. She was a five-time national champion, a 1995 world champion and Olympic medal winner.
Marina Ann Hatzakis is an Australian former rower - a dual Olympian who represented at world championships between 1993 and 2000.
Bronwyn Roye is an Australian former rower. She is a six-time national champion, a medalist at World Championships and a dual Olympian who raced in two Australian sculling events at the 1996 Summer Olympics.
Catriona Roach is an Australian former lightweight rower - a national champion and a 2001 World Champion.
Alice McNamara is an Australian former representative lightweight rower. She was a national champion and a back-to-back world champion in 2007 and 2008. She represented Australia at nine successive World Rowing Championships in lightweight sculling events.
Maia Simmonds is an Australian former representative rower. She is a three-time national champion, rowed for her home state of Western Australia in both lightweight and heavyweight crews, in sculling and sweep-oared boats and won a silver medal at the 2014 World Rowing Championships.
Sarah Pound is an Australian former representative lightweight rower. She is a three-time national champion and won a silver medal at the 2014 World Rowing Championships.
Georgia Miansarow is an English born, Australian representative lightweight rower. She is a three-time national champion and won medals at both World Rowing U23 Championships and senior World Rowing Championships in crewed sculling boats.
Georgia Nesbitt is an Australian former representative lightweight rower who made 10 representative appearaances for Australia between 2013 and 2022. She was an seven-time national champion and she won a silver medal at the 2017 World Rowing Championships. In 2022 prior to a serious cycling accident, she competed in Australian Road National championships and had qualified to participate in her age group at the 2023 Ironman World Championships in Helsinki.
Amy James is an Australian representative lightweight rower. She is a two-time national champion and won a silver medal at the 2017 World Rowing Championships.
Andrew Black is an Australian former representative lightweight rower. He won a bronze medal at the 2000 World Rowing Championships.
Gordon Clubb is an Australian former rower. He was an eight-time national champion rower who represented at three world championships. He won four consecutive Australian national championship titles in a coxed four from 1977 to 1980.
Jennifer Luff is an Australian former representative rower. In a nine year career at the elite level between 1988 and 1996 she won sixteen Australian national titles, raced for Australia at five World Rowing Championships and competed at the 1992 and the 1996 Summer Olympics. In 1990 and 1992 she won the full set of all three open women's sculling boat titles at the Australian Rowing Championships and mirrored that feat in 1995 when she won all three possible open women's titles in sweep-oared boats.
Paul Francis Rowe was an Australian representative rower and elite level rowing coach. He was an eight-time Australian national champion in both sweep oared and sculling boats across both lightweight and open divisions. He was Australia's lightweight sculling representative at the 1975 World Rowing Championships. He coached scullers and crews to three Australia national title wins and to world championships and to Commonwealth and Olympic Games.
Hamish Playfair is an Australian rower. He is a four-time national champion and an Australian representative at World Rowing Championships.
