Lavora Barnes is an American political executive,currently serving as the Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party. She is the first African-American woman elected to be the position [2] [3] [4] [5] and the second woman. [6] She was elected to the position in 2019.
Barnes was born in North Carolina and grew up in Virginia. She graduated from the College of William &Mary in 1987. [7]
Before moving to Michigan,she was the Virginia press secretary for the Bill Clinton 1992 presidential campaign and later worked in his administration. [8] [9]
In 2004,Barnes became a staffer in the Michigan House of Representatives. She worked the Communications director for the Michigan House Democratic Caucus three years later. She also worked as Oakland County's deputy clerk and the state director for the Barack Obama 2012 presidential campaign. [7] In 2015,she became the Michigan Democratic Party's chief operating officer before party chair four years later. [6] In her campaign for the state chair in 2019,she received endorsements from Brandon Dillon,Gretchen Whitmer,and state Attorney General,Dana Nessel. [6] [10]
Gretchen Esther Whitmer is an American lawyer and politician serving as the 49th governor of Michigan since 2019. A member of the Democratic Party,she served in the Michigan House of Representatives from 2001 to 2006 and in the Michigan Senate from 2006 to 2015.

Ronald N. Weiser is an American businessman and Republican Party activist,donor and financier. Weiser founded a real estate company. He held fundraising roles for the presidential campaigns of George W. Bush and John McCain. He was chairman of the Michigan Republican Party from 2009–2011,2017–2019,and 2021–2023. He was U.S. ambassador to Slovakia during the Bush's first term (2001–2004) and was elected to the Board of Regents of the University of Michigan in 2016.
Patrick A. Miles Jr. is a former U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Michigan based in Grand Rapids,Michigan. He was nominated by President Obama on March 29,2012 and confirmed by the U.S. Senate on June 29,2012. Miles is the first person of color to hold the position of U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Michigan,which covers 49 Michigan counties including the state's entire Upper Peninsula.
The 2012 United States House of Representatives elections in Michigan was held on Tuesday,November 6,2012,to elect the 14 U.S. representatives from the state of Michigan,a decrease of one following the 2010 United States Census. The elections coincided with the elections of other federal and state offices,including a quadrennial presidential election and an election to the U.S. Senate. Primary elections were held on August 7,2012. The filing deadline for candidates to file to run in the primary was May 15. Except for two seats,all the incumbents sought re-election. The open seats were the 5th and 11th Congressional Districts. Due to the loss of one seat from the 2010 Census,two congressmen ran against each other. Despite Democrats winning more than 240,000 more votes for U.S. House districts statewide,Republicans won nine of 14 seats and Michiganders tied a state record by electing the lowest rate of U.S. Representatives by a major party whilst simultaneously casting its electoral votes for that party's presidential nominee.
Lonnie Barton Johnson is an American politician. He is the former chairperson of the Michigan Democratic Party,having served in that position from 2013 through 2015. He was an unsuccessful candidate in the 2012 election for the 103rd district in the Michigan House of Representatives. He was the Democratic nominee for Michigan's 1st congressional district in the 2016 election,losing to Republican Jack Bergman in the general election by over 50,000 votes.

Elected to the Democratic National Committee in 2016,she was also elected Midwest Representative to the DNC Women's Caucus in 2018. Deatrick was the Special Projects Director in Michigan for the 2016 Bernie Sanders presidential campaign,and stumped for Former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton. She was a policy analyst at Stanford University. She is a graduate of Wesleyan University (Connecticut) and holds Master's degrees from Harvard University and the University of Michigan,Ann Arbor. Deatrick is also a member of UAW Local 2320 and serves as a delegate to her regional labor federation. She serves on the board of directors of the Southeast Michigan Land Conservancy. In addition to her political career,she has won several national poetry fellowships and awards.

The 2022 Michigan gubernatorial election took place on November 8,2022,to elect the governor of Michigan. Incumbent Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer ran for re-election to a second term and faced former political commentator Tudor Dixon in the general election. Whitmer defeated Dixon by a vote margin of nearly 11 percentage points,a wider margin than expected and wider than her previous election in 2018.
The 2022 United States House of Representatives elections in Michigan were held on November 8,2022,to elect representatives for the thirteen seats in Michigan. The deadline for candidates to file for the August 2 primary was April 19. The congressional make up prior to the election was seven Democrats and seven Republicans. But after the 2020 Census,Michigan lost one congressional seat. Democrats won a majority of seats in the state for the first time since 2008. This can be partly attributed to the decrease in the number of districts,which resulted in two Republican incumbents –Bill Huizenga and Fred Upton –in the new 4th district. Redistricting also played a part in shifting partisan lean of the districts which favored the Democrats overall,including in the 3rd district,which Democrats were able to flip with a margin of victory of 13 points. That was made possible by a non-partisan citizens commission drawing the new political boundaries instead of the Michigan legislature after a 2018 ballot proposal was approved.
