The twenty-fifth season of the American crime-drama television series Law & Order: Special Victims Unit was ordered on April 10, 2023, by NBC. Originally slated to premiere in September 2023, the season premiered on January 18, 2024, [1] following the 2023 Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA strikes. The season will consist of only 13 episodes making it the shortest in the show's history, beating the record previously held by the twenty-second season and produced by Wolf Entertainment and Universal Television; David Graziano is continuing as showrunner, following the departure of Warren Leight at the conclusion of the twenty-third season.[ citation needed ]
After joining the cast in the previous season, Molly Burnett departed the series following the season finale. [2] On November 28, 2023, it was announced Kelli Giddish would return for the season premiere following her mid-season departure during the twenty-fourth season, and returning as a guest star close to the season finale. [3]

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit is an American police procedural crime drama television series created by Dick Wolf for NBC. The first spin-off of Law & Order, it starred Christopher Meloni as Detective Elliot Stabler until Meloni left the series in 2011 after 12 seasons, and Mariska Hargitay as Detective Olivia Benson, now the commanding officer of the Special Victims Unit after originally having been Stabler's partner in a fictionalized version of the New York City Police Department. Meloni has since reprised his role as Stabler in the spin-off series Law & Order: Organized Crime (2021–present). Law & Order: Special Victims Unit follows the style of the original Law & Order in that some episodes are loosely based on real crimes that have received media attention.
Kelli Marie Giddish is an American television, stage, and film actress. She is best known for her portrayal of NYPD Detective Amanda Rollins in the NBC crime-drama television series Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (2011–2023). Giddish previously played Di Henry on the ABC soap opera All My Children (2005–2007), Dr. Kate McGinn in the Fox crime-drama series Past Life (2010), and Annie Nolan Frost in the NBC crime-drama series Chase (2010–2011).
