The Lawrence Arts Center is located in Lawrence, Kansas, United States. It is a regional hub for visual and performing arts, contemporary exhibitions, film, and lectures. These programs are strengthened by fully developed curricula in ballet and modern dance, theater performance, and visual arts that observe National Core standards.[ citation needed ] It employs over 120 teaching artists, and hosts entrepreneurship, professional development and artist-in-residencies for artists across disciplines.[ citation needed ] It enrolls 10,000 students annually, offers a robust financial aid program and greets over 200,000 visitors and audience members each year.[ citation needed ]
The Lawrence Arts Center was established in 1975 [1] and was originally housed in the Carnegie Library building at 200 West 9th Street. [2] In 2002, the Lawrence Arts Center Center opened a new facility featuring 40,000 square feet of programming spaces including: 3 exhibition galleries, a 300 seat main stage theater, a 100 seat Black Box Theatre, 2 dance studios, 2 arts-based early education classrooms, and 7 visual arts studios. The Lawrence Arts Center offers year-long residencies in printmaking and ceramics and short term project-based residencies in various mediums. Featured programs include Summer Youth Theatre, the Lawrence Dance Intensive, the Benefit Art Auction, the Ceramics Symposium, the Print Fair, and the annual Free State Festival - a celebration of film, music, art and ideas. Located 30 minutes from Kansas City, Lawrence is home to the University of Kansas and Haskell Indian Nations University.
The founder and first Executive Director was Ann Evans, who retired at the end of 2007. [3] David L. Leamon acted as Executive Director from 2008-2009. [4] Susan Tate, a former Humanities and English teacher at Lawrence High School, led the organization as the Chief Executive Officer from 2009 [5] through 2016. Kimberly Williams was the Chief Executive Officer from 2016- 2017. In May 2018, Margaret Weisbrod Morris, the Lawrence Arts Center's Chief Program Officer, accepted the position of Chief Executive Officer.[ citation needed ]
The Portland Institute for Contemporary Art (PICA) is a contemporary performance and visual arts organization in Portland in the U.S. state of Oregon. PICA was founded in 1995 by Kristy Edmunds. Since 2003, it has presented the annual Time-Based Art Festival (TBA) every September in Portland, featuring contemporary and experimental visual art, dance, theatre, film/video, music, and educational and public programs from local, national, and international artists. As of November 2017, it is led by Executive Director Victoria Frey and Artistic Directors Roya Amirsoleymani, Erin Boberg Doughton, and Kristan Kennedy.
The Wexner Center for the Arts is the Ohio State University's "multidisciplinary, international laboratory for the exploration and advancement of contemporary art". The Wexner Center opened in November 1989, named in honor of the father of Limited Brands founder Leslie Wexner, who was a major donor to the center. Current director Johanna Burton was appointed in November 2019 after director Sherri Geldin ended her 25-year tenure at the institution.
The Kitchen is a non-profit, multi-disciplinary performance venue and art space located at 512 West 19th Street, between Tenth and Eleventh Avenues in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City. It was founded in Greenwich Village in 1971 by Steina and Woody Vasulka, who were frustrated at the lack of an outlet for video art. The space takes its name from the original location, the kitchen of the Mercer Arts Center which was the only available place for the artists to screen their video pieces. Although first intended as a location for the exhibition of video art, The Kitchen soon expanded its mission to include other forms of art and performance. In 1974, The Kitchen relocated to a building at the corner of Wooster and Broome Streets in SoHo, and incorporated as a not-for-profit arts organization. In 1987 it moved to its current location.
The Pacific Northwest College of Art (PNCA) is a private fine arts and design college in Portland, Oregon. Established in 1909, the art school grants bachelor of fine arts degrees and graduate degrees including the master of fine arts (MFA) and master of arts (MA) degrees. It has an enrollment of about 500 students. Muna Tseng is a Chinese-American dancer, choreographer, author and lecturer. She has lived in New York since 1978 and in 1984 founded Muna Tseng Dance Projects in New York City. She created over 40 dance productions and performed in over 30 cities and festivals in 15 countries. Since 1990 she been the director and executrix of her late brother Tseng Kwong Chi's photography archive. She has served for several years on the 'Current Practice' subcommittee for the annual Bessie Awards, also known as the New York Dance and Performance Awards.
